3k Meeting Engagement - Settra vs Skragg The Slaughterer

TOMB KINGS
Settra The Imperishable
Grand Hierophant Khatep
Tomb Herald – Great Weapon, Armour of Silvered Steel, Battle Standard Bearer (BSB)
Ramhotep The Visionary
39 Skeleton Warriors – Full Command
20 Archers – Full Command
2x10 Archers
5 Chariots – Full Command
30 Tomb Guards – Full Command, Halberd
9 Ushabtis – Full Command, Great Bow
Casket of Souls
Hierotitan

OGRE KINGDOM
Ogre Tyrant – Armour of Destiny
Skragg The Slaughterer
Bruiser BSB
Butcher – Level 2, Dispel Scroll
2x4 Leadbelchers
3x3 Bulls with Great Weapons
4 Bulls with Great Weapons
2x6 Ironguts
2x3 Mournfang Cavalry

DEPLOYMENT
I won the roll for deployment and chose the side away from the dangerous flowing river. Rolling for Reinforcement was quite bad as I rolled 1 for my Skeleton Warriors and the Ushabtis. I don't mind my Ushabti’s going into reserves, but the Skelleton Warriors were the centrepiece/anvil for my army. Without them, I now have to rely on my chariots to make the push from the centre going to the left where my Reserves will make appearance. Settra joined the Skeleton Chariots while Grand Hierophant Khatep and Herald BSB deployed within the 20 man Archers near the Elven structure (Elven Waystone, +1 to Channeling).

Both parties prepares for the Meeting Engagement
My opponent went for pincer move, sending two Heavy Mournfang Cavalry units to both flanks. Following close were small units of Ogre Bulls with Great Weapons and the Leadbelchers. Tyrant and Bruiser BSB each lead a well sized Ogre Ironguts blocks to the center. Scragg and one Ogre Bull unit were pushed into Reserves.

By default, the first turn would go to my Tomb Kings and I looked forward to my first Magic Phase without Scragg to deny me with his +4 to Dispell. But my opponent have 1/6 chance to Seize The Initiative ... and he rolled a 6!! Bugger!

TURN 1
Skragg came in from Reserves and joined the Ironguts block in the center lead by Bruiser BSB. Both Mournfang Cavalry circled to the flanks. The rest of the ogres moved closer, carefully crossing the dangerous river. In the Shooting Phase, both Leadbelcher units targeted my Skeleton Archers to the right and took out 5 skellies.

Come my 1st Turn, I sent the Skelleton Chariots for a 1st turn charge to the rightmost Leadbelchers unit. The ogres reacted by fleeing 8 inches and off the table. I redirected the charge to the closest unit within line of sight which was the Ogre Bulls to my far left. I only need 9 inches, and was confident the Chariots could make it with Swiftstride... but rolled super low. As a result, the charge failed and my wide chariot unit was left stranded within easy charging distance to the Ogres. Should have redirected to the unit directly in front to maintain formation. My Skeleton Warriors entered from the left and Ushabtis came from my right to guard the now exposed flank. My Tomb Guards Combat Reformed and move forward to deal with the Mournfang Cavalry coming from my left.

What a blunder!
Magic Phase. My opponent Dispel Scrolled the first spell from Khatep and the Grand Hierophant rolled low on his 2nd casting attempt (I totally forgotten Khatep can once per turn choose to reroll his casting attempt.. sayang betul). Settra attempted to cast a spell but failed to gather enough winds of magic. Shooting from Ushabtis and Archers killed 1 Mournfang.

TURN 2
The Ogres charged. Mournfang Cavalry to my right went for a rear charge but rolled low (phew!). Skragg, his Ironguts and the Ogre Bulls nearby performed a succesfull frontal and flank charge. Mournfang Cavalry to my left charged the Tomb Guards. Leadbelchers downed 4 more Archers from the depleted Skelly Archers unit.

Urgh ... it hurts!
Settra defeated the Irongut Champion in combat but the whole combat went to the Ogres with their strength boosted by a Blessing spell. The Chariots lost combat and was wipedout due to Unstable. Settra himself suffered 2 wounds from Unstable (Allocated to the Chariot of The Gods).

Nearby, the Tomb Guards with Halberd (boosted with WS7 from having Settra within 6 inches and Frenzy (and also Hatred but I forgot about it at this moment) from Ramhotep), defeated the charging Mournfang Cavalry. The Cavalry fled (7 inches) but was pursued (9 inches) and captured.

So far was quite even. But things weren't looking so good for Settra, surrounded like that.

My 2nd turn, Tomb Guard reformed and readied for the next turn and move the Skelleton Warriors forward. Magic phase was good, casted 1 hex (-1 S and T) to Skragg unit, 1 blessing (Boosted Righteous Smiting). Ushabtis and The 20 man Archers killed 3 Leadbelchers. The 10 man Archers killed one Bull from the unit to my left.

"I am Settra. I do not serve ... I rule!"
Surrounded by 10 Ogres, 2 of which was experienced fighters, even the mighty Settra was having difficulties. He killed one Ogre and wounded another. With insane skills he defended against the attacks from Skragg's unit, suffering only 2 wounds. But later 6 great weapon attacks came from his blindspot (the flank), went through his protection ward, wounded him 3 times and slain the mighty King of Kings (and I just realized I forgot to do The Curse effect to the Ogre Bulls). Skragg and his unit reformed to face my 10 Archers. The Ogre Bulls went the other way, to flank-charge my main Archers unit.

My General dead. Dang.. Now the Ogres were well in the lead.

TURN 3
Skragg's unit destroyed the 10 man Archers in front of them and overran into the woods.

Chaaaaaarrrrggee!!!
The Ogre Bulls flank-charged the Skeleton Archers, but their attempt to break the formation was denied by the Herald BSB. Great Weapons clashed and one Bull fell dead from the encounter. The last surviving Bull ran away.

The rest of the Ogres came closer, preparing themselves for combat in the next turn.

My 3rd Turn. Khatep casted High Level Righteous Smiting successfully but his 2nd spell, a Hex (-1 S and T) was dispelled. Archers and Ushabtis killed one Mournfang Cavalry and wounded the last guy in the Shooting Phase.

Tomb Guards charged to the flank of Skragg's unit. Boosted with Righteous Smiting, Frenzy and Hatred (I wished Settra was still around for WS7), they defeated their enemy and forced a Break Test with a huge -7 modifiers to Skragg's unit. Finally, a major breakthrough for my Tomb Kings were within my sight bwahahaha! My opponent took out his dice and rolled, failed (Wohoo!), then rerolled the test for having BSB ... Insane Courage!!! (WHAT??!!!?)

Now I'm dead.

TURN 4

The Ogre Tyrant and his Ironguts slammed into the Skeleton Warriors. Only the Champion survived the onslaught. On the right flank, the last Mournfang Cavalry charged my Archers, but was slain by the Herald BSB.

It is not over yet!
At the centre, Bruiser BSB and Skragg defeated the Tomb Guards, causing them to lose their Frenzy.

In my Turn 4. Casket of Souls took out the last Leadbelcher with Unleashed Souls. Then Ushabtis and Archer wipedout the 4 man Ogre unit at the center with their arrows (Thanks to the Righteous Smiting).

The Combat Phase saw Hierotitan killed the lone Ogre Bull in front of it while the the Ogre Tyrant took out the Skeleton Warriors. Bruiser and Skragg continued their fight with the Tomb Guards.
Aaah.. Penat!
It was a long tiring game (3+ hours since we began) and I need to break my fast in about fifteen minutes, so we decided to end it here and started counting our Victory Points. The Ogres scored 1,076 points from kills while my Tomb Kings scored 1,046 points. A draw?! But the Ogres also managed to slay my General (100 points) and captured 2 Banners (25 points each). With that the Ogre Kingdom won a Solid Victory with 180 points.

Wow.. what a great game.

The redirection in the First Turn was a huge gamble that I lost. If the Chariots made it, they would have easily destroyed the Ogre Bulls and then reform and sweep the Ogres from the left flank. But I lost the gamble, along with my expensive General.

I need to have a proper look at my Tomb Kings Army Book again as I kept forgetting important stuffs like Khatep's rerolling ability (He failed twice!) and Ramhotep's amazing buffs.

My TK fought well despite losing their High King early on. We almost win but that Insane Courage! in the 3rd Turn was truly the lifesaver for the Ogres. Well done to my opponent. It was a very fun game.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.

The Carnival of Flesh : Raven Guard vs Dark Eldar 1850 pts Battle Report

Right after my lost to the Thousand Sons, I had a game versus a funky Dark Eldar Coven list as follows:

Ancient Haemonculus
Haemonculus
7 Grotesques
3 Splinterborn in Venom
10 Warriors in Raider
2x5 Wracks in Raider
3 Wracks in Venom
10 Scourges
2 Talos
Razorwing Jetfighter

Mission : Purge The Alien, but that wouldn't be fun for the DE so we rolled again --> Big Guns Never Tire (5), Night Fight in play.
Deployment : Dawn of WarRG chose to go second.

As can be seen in the picture below, the Coven deployed 2 Talos on the left flank and everything else to the right. Only the Razorwing was in Reserves.

I deployed the Centurions to counter the Talos. Chapter Master and the Assault Marines were deployed in the centre, hidden from the Scourges by the large Bastion. One Snipers infiltrated to the left and one more right behind the large Bastion. Finally, Shrike and the Vanguard Veterans infiltrated behind the small Bastion.

At the dawn of war
My attempt at Seize The Initiative failed and the Coven went first. The Talos split, one moved towards the objective and the other backed away towards the square build. Scourges jumped down from the tower and then the shooting began. 60+ poisoned shots and 3 Dark Lance killed 4 Assault Marine, took one wound off my Chapter Master, and killed 1 Centurion. Guess what? Both the Centurions and Chapter Master's unit failed Morale Check and fled towards the table edge. Lucky the Chapter Master and Assault Marines rolled low on the 3D6, stopping just about 2 inches from the table edge ( Phew! ). The Centurions fled 3 inches.

Came my First Turn, 10 man Tactical in 2 Combat Squads make a drop right beside the tower. 1st  Combat Squad destroyed a Raider (First Blood!)with 10 man DE Warriors, killing 6 Warriors in the explosion, forcing the survivors to flee 10 inches. 2nd Combat Squad Rapid Fired towards the Scourges, killed 2-3 of them.

The Centurions rallied and killed the Talos on the left. Prior to that, Shrike and the VVets already made their move towards the Talos, so now they were stranded in the open. The Chapter Master and his retinues jumped towards the small Bastion, safe from any enemy LOS. The Snipers at the centre embarked the Bastion, onto the Battlement and sat still.

Ooh.. here comes the pain
2nd Turn. Razorwing jetfighter entered the game and targeted the VVets with 2 Monoscythe Missiles, a Splinter Cannon and a Dark Lance. Lucky my saves were quite good where only 3 Veterans (all with Storm Shield) fell as casualties. Several poisoned weapons also targeted them but in the end, Shrike survived with 5 VVets. The rest of the army focussed their attention at the 2 Tactical Combat Squads behind their line, which they successfully destroyed with shooting and assault.

Came my turn, the Storm Raven arrived just in time to stop the Razorwing. Shrike led his unit to the square structure, closer to the Talos. Centurions shot at the Talos, causing 2 wounds. Deathwind Launcher targeted the Scourges, easily hitting 6 Scourges and a Venom (Splinterborn inside) if I rolled a Hit!, but alas, it scattered far towards the Grotesques, causing some wounds (Don't remember how many).

Then the Chapter Master ordered an Orbital Bombardment to strike at the same target, this time a Hit!. The Venom instantly destroyed, the Splinterborns pinned. 4 Scourges died, leaving only 3 left to fight. Additionally, the explosion also killed 2 more Warriors nearby, forcing them to flee off table.
Things were getting even
On the 3rd Turn, my opponent decided that it was a good time to start making a move towards the other objectives. 2 Raiders with 5 Wracks each split from the main force. One moved to the south of the large Bastion, the other one to the centre. Some poison shots reached the Centurions, causing one unsaved wound.

My opponent deemed that the Drop Pod with its deadly Deathwind Launcher a serious threat to his fragile troops. So he pulled back the Grotesques and wrecked it in assault. In the same phase, the Talos assaulted Shrike and the VVets, but Shrike slay it with the Ravens Talons.

When it was my turn, I pushed Shrike's and his unit towards a Venom (3 Wracks inside), they destroyed it in assault and the explosion pinned the passengers. Towards the centre, the Chapter Master led the Assault Marines to destroy a Raider, also in assault.

As for the last Raider to the South, I chased it with the Storm Raven but the gunship only managed to a weapon destroyed result. However, the Raider was within range of one Gravcannon, which wrecked it with an Immobilised result due to moving Flat Out in the previous turn. 5 Wracks inside passed the pinning test and moved towards the Bastion. Fully expecting that, the Snipers on the battlement had earlier moved into the Bastion to prevent the Wracks from entering it in the next turn. The Scouts on the left flank moved closer to an objective.
We're getting there
Turn 4. The Grotesques moved towards the centre, they're going after the Chapter Master and his unit, but still too far for a charge. Scourges and Splinterborne shot at Shrikes unit, killing two Vets. The Wracks at the centre killed 2 Assault Marines with Liquifier Gun. The Wracks down south moved into base contact with the Bastion and shot Liquifier Gun through the Fire Points, killing 2 Scouts.
The Chapter Master showed the boys how real men fight.. ALONE!
This turn, I focussed on killing all the DE troops to secure my win. Strom Raven destroyed the Wracks hugging the Bastion. Shrike and his team killed the 3 Wracks up on the rocky terrain, and the Assault Marines killed the Wracks at the centre. The game was mine.

With the mission secured, I sent the Chapter Master (Alone!) to fight the Ancient Haemonculus and the Grotesques. However, the Ancient Haemonculus was not without his own tricks. He pulled out a glassy item and threw it to the Chapter Master... a Shattershard! The thing exploded upon impact and forced 2 Toughness Test on my Chapter Master, of which he failed one and was removed from the game with no saves of any kind allowed. Nasty stuff. Good for Wall of Death.

Our mission secured, let us go home boys
5th Turn. Splinterborn and Scourges killed all the VVets and reduced Shrike to a single wound. The Grotesques went after the Assault Marines, killed 2 with Liquifier Gun, but failed to reach assault.

Came my final turn, Shrike and the 2 remaining Assault Marines destroyed the Scourges while the Storm Raven took out the Splinterborn. The Scouts in the Bastion moved out and captured the objective nearby and the game ended.

RESULT:
Coven : Slay The Warlord
Raven Guard : First Blood + Linebreaker + 3 Heavy Supports + 2 Objectives = Raven Guard Won!!

Post-game Assessment:
The game was really fun. Both our list was quite even, fun and fluffy. This kind of game is the one that I enjoyed the most. His list had the advantage of range and uber CC unit. While mine has fast infantry and better survivability. We had equal chance to win at the start of the game.

The Tactical Combat Squads and Drop Pod with Deathwind Launcher is the catalyst for my win. Bt deploying them behind the enemy, I managed to divert his attention (especially the Grotesques) away from me. That gives me ample time to do what was needed to win me the game.

What also mades the different was his rolls for the poisoned weapons which was quite low. On the other hand, my rolls were superbly good on several occasions. My rolls were so good that I almost lost the Chapter Master and Assault Marines early on due to failed morale check. Even the Chapter Master rolled high on the Shattershard (hahaha).

Vanguards didn't do much in the game, what they did was protect Shrike, which can be done cheaper with regular Assault Marines. The Centurions on the other hand, did great taking out the Talos. Those are the only target worth their attention anyway since everything else was with 5+/6+ armoursaves which can just laugh out at their Gravcannons.

It was a very fun game. One I truly enjoyed.

That's all for today and thanks for reading.

MERRY CRISTMAS TO ALL!

Have a nice day :)

Against The Dark Master : 1850 pts Battle Report

Last week I had Be'lakor leading my Daemons of Khorne. But last Saturday was the opposite, the Dark Master fought side by side with Ahriman and the Thousand Sons, against my Raven Guard.

This was my list for the day:
Chapter Master - THammer, Shield Eternal, Artificer Armour, Auspex, Jumpack
Shrike
10 Vanguard Veterans - 5 with Storm Shields, 3 with Power Swords + Melta Bombs, 2 PFist
10 Tacticals - Meltagun, Combi Melta
Drop Pod with Deathwind Launcher
2x5 Snipers
10 Assault Marines - Vet. Sargeant with PAxe+Meltabombs
3 Centurion Devastators - Gravcannons + Amps
Storm Raven - TwinLasscannon, TwinMMelta, Hurricane Bolters

The idea for the list was to try out the Vanguard Veterans as they are very synonym with Raven Guard. I know they are points-better-spent-elsewhere especially in our highly competitive meta here, but I've always enjoyed playing games with fluffy list more than anything and wanted to see how they would perform on table.

My opponent was the Thousand Sons player I fought during the Force Recon Tournament. This was the second time my Raven Guard fought his army. The first encounter was a lost to my Raven Guard and now his Thousand Sons were made even stronger with Be'lakor within their rank.

Primary : Thousand Sons
Ahriman
Be'lakor
2x13 Thousand Sons
Baledrake

Ally : Black Legion
Prince with The Last Memory of Yuranthos
6 Chosens with 6 Plasmaguns in Rhino

The Game : Big Guns Never Tire (4), Night Fighting
Deployment : Vanguard Strike Deployment. Raven Guard deployed first.

I deployed the Chapter Master normally with Shrike and the Vanguard Veterans as close as possible towards the enemy deployment zone, inside the forest. 3 Centurion Devastators also deployed in the forest and the 2nd Assault Marines just behind them. Both scouts were put in reserves.

My opponent deployed as can be seen in the picture below. With Master of Deception from Ahriman, he Infiltrated both of the Thousand Sons units and the Chosens. But something I just realize when writing this Battle Report was that he might have Infiltrated both Be'lakor and the Black Legion Daemon Prince, perhaps by mistake. That was a HUGE mistake. Silly me for not realising that.

His attempt to seize the initiative failed.

The flock of ravens moved towards Ahriman
I began with Tactical Squad performed a Drop Pod Assault right in the middle of the enemy line, and break into Combat Squads. 1st Tactical Combat Squad with Meltaguns failed to destroy the Rhino (Chosens inside), causing only Crew Stunned result.

Centurion Devastators moved forward, shot at the Black Legion Prince, causing 10 AP2 and 3 AP5 wounds but he saved it all except 3. The 2nd Tactical Combat Squad tried to bring down the last wound with Bolters, but couldn't break through his Power Armour.

Shrike led the Vanguard Veterans and the Chapter Master towards Ahriman and his Thousand Sons on the left flank. The assault was a success, the Ravens lost 3 man while the Chapter Master lost one wound in a challenge, but they killed 12 Thousand Sons. With only Ahriman and a Rubric Marine left, I thought they might end it all in the next turn.

But I was wrong.

Came the enemy turn, The Vanguard Veterans were targeted with Hallucination spell twice, once each by Ahriman and Be'lakor. Even with Adamantium Will granted by the Shield Eternal, I failed to deny the spells and the whole unit was left standing still, doing nothing, for the whole game turn.

The Black Legion Prince Swooped forward and cast the Sunburst spell with 2 Warp Charges. The spell hits the Vanguard Veterans, Assault Marines (2 casualties) and the Centurion Devastators (1 wound). The spell also Blinded all three units (I failed all 3 Initiative Test hahaha).

The Thousand Sons unit at the centre moved back and killed the 1st Tactical Combat Squad (1st Blood). The Chosen on the other hand, disembarked from the Rhino and Snap Fired at the 2nd Tactical Squad, killing one guy but lost the Chosen Champion from Gets Hot!

Be'lakor glided forward and assaulted the Assault Marines. I sent my Veteran Sargeant to fight him and hold him for a round of combat. Ahriman fought my Chapter Master in a challenge but failed to cause any wound. The lone Rubrics started to slowly kill my Vanguard Veterans.

The reinforcements came
My 2nd Turn, all the reserves came in. I was hoping that the Scouts would came later, after the Storm Raven deal with the Baledrake that would come in the next enemy turn. I can only pray the Baledrake didn't make it in the next turn.

Now with the Centurions Blinded, I used them to take out the Black Legion Prince. The Prince had no chance against 15 Gravcannon shots, even if Snap Firing. The Storm Raven shot at the Chosens and killed 2 guys. Deathwind Launcher also targeted the Chosens, but scattered too far away. The 2nd Tactical Combat Squad on the other hand, failed to harm the Chosen with their Bolters.

Close combat saw Be'lakor killing 4 of my Assault Marines, leaving 3 guys left to fight him. Meanwhile, Ahriman took one wound off my Chapter Master.

On the enemy turn, the Baledrake came in, took 1 Hull Point off the Storm Raven with Vector Strike and incinerated a Scout unit with the Baleflamer. Ahriman and Be'Lakor again casted Hallucinate on the Vanguard Unit. They would stay in that sorry state for another game turn (Duh..). The Chosen squad wipedout my Tactical squad.

I was expecting Be'lakor to easily kill the rest of the Assault Marines (left with only 3 man) in this close combat phase. That would left him stranded in the open, easy prey for my Storm Raven and Centurions. But somehow Be'lakor failed miserably in his attacks, managed only 3 hits (after reroll) and from that, only 2 wounds. With one Assault Marines stuck with him in combat, Be'lakor would be free to do whatever he wanted in the next enemy turn.

Funny thing, Ahriman failed to wound to the statue of my Chapter Master.

3rd Turn. With nothing to do, I sent the Storm Raven and Deathwind Launcher towards the Thousand Sons. They killed some, maybe about 4-5 guys (Don't really remember). The Centurions shot at the Heldrake but failed to cause any damage. Then it was close combat where Ahriman still failed to harm my Chapter Master. Be'lakor killed the last Assault Marines and moved closer to my Centurion Devastators.

Things are getting worst for the Raven
On enemy turn, Be'lakor glided towards the Centurions, killed some with Psychic Shriek and the rest with assault. This time, Ahriman managed to kill my Chapter Master. Shrike killed the lone Rubrics but they stayed in combat. The Baledrake moved towards my 2nd Scout Squad, flamed and killed 3 guys.

This is the end
4th Turn. I sent the Storm Raven to hunt down the Baledrake. The attack damaged the Baleflamer, but failed to destroy it completely. In close combat Ahriman (boosted with Warp Speed) killed Shrike in challenge.

With almost nothing left to help me clear the enemy troops, I conceded the game.

Result : Thousand Sons Won!

Post-game Assessment:
Be'lakor again showed just how he worth every points you spent on him. It is thanks to his Hallucination that my opponent successfully locked my Vanguard Veterans, Shrike and Chapter Master from doing their job.

The Vanguard Veterans were nasty in their charge, killing 12 Rubrics in a single charge is no easy feat. I doubt any normal Assault Marines would be able to do it. But that is all I can say about them. Thanks to Hallucination, the Veterans didn't do anything after the 1st Turn, and were slowly killed by the lone Rubric Marines accompanying Ahriman. In the end, there's only two of them left facing Ahriman. I need more game with them.

The Centurion Devastators are truly dangerous. It was thanks to them that I can easily deal with the Black Legion Prince. I'm liking them already :)

Next:
With that concede, I had enough time for another game. This time was against the Carnival of Flesh.
The battle report for it will follow soon enough. So stay tuned :)

Until then, have a nice day.

2 Games --> 2 Draws

After close to a month, I finally able to go to Games Castle and make war with my Raven Guard. Arriving there at around 9.20pm, I dont have to wait long for my 1st game.

The list I brought is as follow:
2nd Captain Vulture - count as Shrike
Dreadnought - MMelta (Drop Pod)
5 Terminators - 2 Claws, 5 TH&SS
2x10 Tacticals - Flamer, Missiles, PFist&CMelta (in Rhinoes)
10 Assault Marines - THammer
Typhoon Speeder
2 Attack Bikes - MMelta
2xPredator - Lasscannon side sponsons
Predator - HBolter side sponsons

1st GAME

My 1st opponent is another marine army, controlled by Shawn. His list is as below:
Biker Captain - Relic&SS
Chaplain in Terminator Armour
5 Terminators - Cyclone Missile
5 Assault Terminators
10man Tacticals - Plasma Cannon and PFist (in Rhino)
Troop Bikers complete with MMelta Attack Bikes - Meltagun, PFist
LR Crusader

Mission : Seize Ground, Dawn of War
Highlights : Nothing much to say, just that I make a lot of mistakes and it pays me dearly. But in the end, both of us has no more troops to capture objectives.
Result : Draw

2nd GAME

My good buddy Danntoh came just as I was about to leave GC (close to midnight). He brings his much awaited Hive Fleet Zavulon and we soon the game was already running.

Hive Fleet Zavulon
Flying Tyrant
HQ Tervigon
2 Hive Guard with Impaler Cannon?
2 Big Brains in Spore
3 Warriors
20 Termagants
Troop Tervigon
A Lictor
CC Carnifex in Spore
CC Carnifex in Spore
Mawloc

Mission : Capture and Control
Highlights:
i. It was a hard list to fight. Monsters and monsters and some more monsters is killing my marines.
ii. The Carnifexes landing close to my home objective means there's no way I can hold that objective anymore. Which leaves me only one option available. Capture the Tyranids home objective!! More importantly, that makes the game a lot more fun than just defending my own turf.
iii. Things get messy very fast, the Tervigons keep on spawning countless Termagants to block my forces.

iv. Luckily The Vulture and his unit is around to support them. v. But jumping out of terrain kills 2 assault marines, enough to force morale check and guess what.. They failed and led by The Vulture, they flee of the table.

vii. Seeing their leader fleeing the battle cracks the morale of my other marines. The Tacticals suddenly decide to abandon their cause and run away from battle, just as they are several inches from enemy objectives.

viii. But the Terminators keep on fighting. They killed a Tervigon, slaughter Termagants and contest the objective by the end of turn 6.

Result : Draw. Despite all the monsters and the difficulties, this is by far the funniest and enjoyable game I've ever had with my Raven Guard.

Victory Unto Death!!

My Raven Guard won again. This time was against Andy's Eldar led by Eldrad. His list:
Eldrad and Seer Council in Serpent
Farseer and Banshees in Serpent
Dragons in Falcon
2x12 Guardians with ScatLass
2 Vipers
3 Warwalkers

My Raven Guard:
Shrike
Dread in Drop Pod
5 Assault Termies - 2 LC, 3TH&SS
2x10 Marines - Plasmagun, Lasscannon, PFist+CombiMelta (in Rhino)
10 Assault Marines - TH&SS
2 Attack Bikes
3 Predators - Lascannon Sponsons

Mission: Seize Ground (5), Pitch Battle, Eldar goes 1st
Highlights:
i. Shrike lead the 5 Termies right in the centre of table. Fleeting gives them the 1st turn charge on 3 Warwalkers. Later, they were doomed and charged by furious Banshees. But luck is on my side that day and Shrike+2 Termies remains as the victor of the great melee.
ii. They were later shot by 2 Guardian squads, killing Shrike and a terminator. The lone Terminator Sargeant climbed a low mound and jump right on the Guardians. The high ground proves to be an advantage as he single handedly fought and win every round of combat. But the Guardians are too stubborn and held their ground.
iii. In the end, Eldrad, his Seer Council and 4-5 Guardians left alive while Raven Guard loses their Commander, 5 Terminators and 5 Marines.

Result: Raven Guard wins by 3-0 objectives. It was a great victory for the Sons of Corax.

Assassin's Creed

I had a game with the Mad Doc Selvam's Dwarven army led by Thorek Ironbrow himself. Thorek and the Anvil of Doom is a nasty piece. This is the 1st time i saw AoD in play and was shocked to see it's effectiveness.

That 2d6 S4 Lightning and the ability to move units into charge is a nice ability that has a lot of potential in affecting the game. The best thing is that it is casted in the shooting phase, which means it can never be dispelled!!

But my Dark Elves learned well and fast. And lead by Dreadlord Akkarin, they fought the Dwarves find glory for Naggaroth. Akkarin himself slew the Dwarf Thane in a challenge. (Akkarin died a few seconds later from 20 angry dwarven axes hahaha)

My 3 Assassins proved their worth once again in this game. Entreri even Killing Blowed Thorek in their duel.

Result:
The dwarves completely annihilated. Only 11 Dark Elves dead (including Dreadlord Akkarin)It was a Massacre!!

RG vs Eldar

Sukai ask for another game vs my Raven Guard. It was a Seize Ground (5) mission, Pitch Battle deployment and i allow him to deploy 1st.

His luck was overwhelming with countless of successfull saves. His Avatar survives countless lasscannon, plasmagun and autocannon shots (even when not Fourtuned) suffering only 2 wounds when the game ended on turn 7.

Luckily Shrike and his band of fleeting Assault Marines succeed in their suicide mission to kill every single Eldar troops. This enabled me to win the game with a lead by 1 objective.

What's left on turn 7:
RG - 2 Attack Bikes, Dreadnought, Drop Pod, 3 Predators, 4 Tacticals.
Eldar - Avatar, Eldrad, 3 Banshees, an immobilised Serpent.

Another win for the Sons of Corax

vs The 2nd Company Ultramarines

Sukai asked me for another game yesterday. The last time I fought him was using my Shrike's build vs his Eldrad list. It ended in a draw due to my mistake in the final round.

My guess is he will bring either his Eldar again (for payback) or his Ultrmarines (He just love his Calgar :) ). This time i wanna try different playstyle and so i choose Kantor instead to lead my Raven Guard.

Master Hafiz Samah - count as Kantor
5 Honour Guards in Razorback
10 Man Tacticals - Plasmagun, Lascannon, PFist & CombiMelta
10 Man Tacticals - Plasmagun, Lascannon, PFist & CombiMelta
10 man Assault Squad - TH&SS
10 man Assault Squad - TH&SS
Predator - Lascannon Sponsons
Predator - Lascannon Sponsons
Predator - Lascannon Sponsons

When he arrived at 7.00 pm, I saw that he brings his Ultramarines. But no Calgar this time. Instead, it was Cato Sicarius and his 2nd Company.

The Ultramarines 2nd Company:
Cato Sicarius
Ortan Cassius
5 Terminators - CycloneML
5 Assault Terminators - 2 LC, 3 TH&SS
10 Tacticals - Meltagun, Lascannon, Tank Hunters (in Rhino)
10 Tacticals - Plasmagun, Missile Launcher
10 Tacticals - Flamer, Missile Launcher (in Rhino)
Land Raider
Vindicator

Game: Seize Ground (5), Dawn of War

Highlights:
i. LR survived 4-6 LC per turn unscathed. Luckily, my Sargeant manage to destroyed it on turn 4 with his Combi-Melta;
ii. Honour Guards destroyed by Sicarius and Cassius.
iii. Cassius vs Master Apis.. Master Apis wins!!
iv. Sicarius vs Master Apis!!.. Master Apis Victorius!!

Result: RG Win 2-0

3 fun games, but no pics?

My battery went out, so no pic to show. I played 3 fun games, 2 with my Raven Guard and a fantasy game with my DE.

1st game : Raven Guards vs Orkses
Mission : Annihilation, Dawn of War
Hightlights:
- Shrike + 20 Assault Marines (2 TH&SS) charged 8 Nobz (2 PK, 1 Painboy) + Warboss. Result: Dead Shrike and 13 other marines. Only 2 nobz dead.
- Lone Assault Sargeant fought 5 Nobz+Warboss in the 3rd round of combat. He survived 4 normal and 6 PK attacks!!
Result : RG has 2 Preds and 2 Tacticals Squad left while the orkses, a Warboss and 4 Nobz. But still, RG lost by 1 killpoint.

2nd Game : Dark Elves vs Tzeentch-Khorne Chaos list (Joe's)
Highlights :
- Joe's roll sucks bad. 1 and 2 all the way early in the game. That greatly reduced the effectiveness of his heavy magic army.
- My roll was too good to be true. They are damn high even in Leadership test. i failed almost all my psychology test and test for rally. Even my Lord and Cold One Knights failed their stupidity check at the most crutial turn
- My CC Assasin single handedly took out 5 man Maruder horsemen (1st turn charge) , 3 man Khorne Knights (2nd Turn) and another 3 man Chaos Knights (4th Turn). Hatred + Rune of Khaine + Killing Blow rocks!!
- Gateway is a scary magic. Casted on 15+, and Joe never rolled a misscast in all 6 turns, on the 5th turn Joe used that magic to send my Assasin and a unit of 5 Shades (who finally succeed to rally)to oblivion.
- In the end The Chaos Horde was pushed to just the High Sorcerer and 2 Marauder horsemen.
Result : A minor victory for the Dark Elves

3rd Game : Raven Guard vs Eldar (Jain Zar & Eldrad)
Mission : Seize Ground (3 Obj), Spearhead
Highlights :
- Shrike + 10 Jumpackers infiltrate and cause havoc in the eldar enemy lines. It took both Jain Zar's squad and Eldrad's Dire Avengers to finally end the chaos and slay Shrike.
- 10 man Dire Avengers with Defend, Shimmershield and fortuned.. Damn keras!!
Result : Raven Guard win controlling 2 objectives. The Eldar hold none.

I really need to get a new battery pack for my cammera.

RG vs Eldar

Play vs Sukai's Eldar last night. This is my RG forces:
Shrike
Dread MMelta (drop pod)
10 Tacticals Plasmagun, Lasscannon, PF&CombiMelta (Rhino)
10 Tacticals Plasmagun, Lasscannon, PF&CombiMelta (Rhino)
10 Jumpacks TH&SS
10 Jumpacks TH&SS
2 Attack Bikes MMelta
Predator Autocannon, Lasscannon Sponsons
Predator Autocannon, Lasscannon Sponsons
Whirlwind

Mission: Capture and Control (Eldar go 1st)
Result: I am one inches away from the winning objective. It's a draw.

I like this list. Not enough vehicles though and need to use my WE Rhinoes and Preds. Still waiting for the shipment of my 2 Rhinoes to arrive. Then, I'm thinking to get 2 Predators to complete the list.

Did testplay the TH&SS for Assault Sargeant and fell in love with them instantly. I'll keep them in the list for now.

RG record: 2 wins, 1 draw

The Inquisition Wars - Aftermath

It is finally over. The war between the two Inquisitor is finally over. The Reds has triumphed over the Black ones. And my World Eaters has played a large role in bringing down the Black Inquisitor.

It was quite funny actually. When i made this tourney list, i was aiming for a fun and fluffy World Eaters list. I also drop my 2 Daemon Princes just because i want people to see my lovingly crafted Winged Lord Ammar.

Even at a glance, people can see straight away that this isn't a very strong list. And the loses I suffered during playtest just shows that my list belongs to the middle tier.

Lord Ammar's Eastern Barbaric Skullcrusher

1st Game : VS. Ceiran's CSM
My 1st opponent was Ceiran's Khornate Army.
I was the Defender and he, the Attacker. We fought untill turn 6 and I manage to kill/destroy everything in his army except his Terminator Lord who is hiding inside his Land Raider. I only lost my Termies, Oblits and a Dakka Pred.

Result : WE win 16 - 5

2nd Game : VS Iz's Mad Mobz
My 2nd game was against the Defending Champion - Warboss Iz's and his mad mobs of bullies. I never had a chance to fight him before and suddenly it happened, in a tourney. Just look at those Nobz Bikers, 9 of them!!
Iz won the 1st turn but gave it to me, so in the 1st turn i decided to forget about the mission. I moved all my key units into the stonehenge, as close as possible to his bikers and the Ard Boys (led by Mad Doc Grotsnik). It was an open challenge, a challenge that the proud Warboss cannot run away from.
"the battle at the Stonehenge"

Lord Ammar, 24 Berserkers, 8 Khorne Raptors
vs.
Warboss Grimfang and 9 Nobz Bikers, Mad Dok Grotsnik and 30 Ard Boyz, Snikrot and his Commandoes
Result: World Eaters WIN!!!

By the 3rd turn, Iz conceded the game after losing all his key units. Not to mention, his Gretchins (in reserve) failed to come in (prolly ran away after watching their great Warboss slain in battle is my guess heheh). In the end, I still have all my units except for the Lord and 2 Rhinoes.

Result : WE win 18 - 6

3rd Game : VS. Saim Han
After our mishap that hobby night, Khairul and me was destined to fight in tourney. I hate fighting Eldar, my army cannot handle the mobility of Eldar and this is proven in my testplay at GC where i lost 2 games vs Eldar.

Much worst, this list has Eldrad, and he seized the Initiative. Truly the worst case scenario.

2 of my Rhinoes were Wrecked in the 1st turn and that greatly demoralised me. But i just keep on playing as usual, runing my Berserkers (in between ruins) towards the Eldar. Luckily for me, Khairul tends to make a lot of mistake (some are big enough mistakes) and I use that to my advantage and grab my 3rd win.

In the end, only a Prism and a Falcon (Saim Han) survive the game while i only lost a Lord and 3 Rhinoes.

Result : WE win 18-6

In the end, I was placed 3rd under my brother, Din, and the New Grandmaster - Sujin (All hail the Grandmaster!!). I lost by Appearance (6/9 points) and Sportsmanship (3/9 points).

It was a great event. Ave Legio!!

Din's Space Hulk Boarding Party (Blood Angels)
- remember that Dante? :)

Another Eldar host

On Sept. 26th (Saturday), i finally got my chance to go to GC. So i grab my WE bag and went for a game. There's quite a crowd in there but they are all either into Spacehulk, D&D, painting or plainly just hanging around for fun.

I asked around and finally got a game. Against a new player with his Eldar forces. His army was majority still under painting. He has enough models assembled for a 1750 game so we game in no time :).

Game: Secure and Control, Pitch Battle

World Eaters - Lead by Lord Ammar
Winged Lord - Stomped to death by a Warwalker
5 Termies
3x8 Berserkers
3 Rhinoes - 1 destroyed
2x5 Raptors
1 Lass-Pred - destroyed
2 Dakka-Pred - 1 Destroyed

Black Primed Eldar Craftworld
Avatar
Farseer
Banshees (in Serpent)
Dragons (in Falcon)
Dire Avengers (in Serpent)
2x10 Guardians - 1 unit flees
6 Jetbikes
2 Vipers (in a squadron) - 1 destroyed
2 Warwalkers - 1 destroyed

Turn 1: The table setup was biased towards the Eldar (I was the one who set it that way hahah). That red-shirt guy is my opponent. I go 1st and speed towards his line.
End of WE's Turn 2: Both Raptor Squads and Termies came too early. Predators pound one Guardian Squad, forcing the survivors to flee. Eldar circled around towards the left, aiming for my lone Lass-pred.
End of Eldar's Turn 3: 1 Lass-pred, 1 Dakka-pred, 1 Rhino destroyed. WE controlled both objectives.
End of WE's Turn 4: Lots of bad rolls, Lord Ammar fought a Warwalker and rolled 1 for his DW. Later he was stomped to death. WE controlled 2 objectives.
End of Turn 5 (End game): Eldar do what they always do in the 5th turn. Contest objectives. I see it long before it happens, but dont think the distance is enough for him to reach both objectives. Failing that, i believe i can win in Turn 6. But then the game ended with a roll of 1.
Result: The game ended in a draw.
Lesson learned: Try to avoid wrong judgement.
WE record: 5 wins, 1 draw, 2 loses.
