Canoptek Scarabs

Canoptek Scarabs.. dont know why but from what I read, they seems to be the scariest thing since the new Necron codex came out. Of course, the Entropic Strike rocks, and beast status help them much. But with only T3, it is just so easy to counter them.

I so far had only one playtest with them. 5 of them at 75 pts is enough to eat any vehicle you sent them to. But of course, they'll die afterwards. I'll try them more often now that i've painted some :-)

Update : The Undying Legion

It has been a month since my last post. In that time, I managed only one game with my Necrons. It was a game against a combination of Grey Knights and Tyranids. The mission was Annihilation with Dawn of War deployment. I wont bore you guys with a batrep, but the result was yet another win for my Necrons with 9 to 1 in KPs. That makes it 3 straight wins for my Necrons. All was won through close combat. Necrons.. close combat.. Funny isn't it :-)

Onto the hobby side, I finally bought myself some new Necrons. Hurray!! It was 2 boxes of Immortals and a box of Lychguards. The Immortals is a 'must buy' to complete my list since I use 10 Immortals with Tesla Carbine in my list. Plus, I need the Deathmarks head for Crypteks conversion.

As for the Lychguards, I bought them just to do the Cryptek conversions. But as I assembled the model, I realized that the Lychguards form is too solid and bulky to represent a Cryptek with just a 4+ armur. To me, Necron Warriors is a more suitable model for Cryptek. So I end up doing a Lychguard unit with Hyperphase Sword and Dispersion Shield instead, just in case I wanna try them someday. Seriously, they are nice looking models and I had great fun trying several pose during assembly. I'm full of spirit to paint them but alas, I'm running out of Chaos Black primer. Nothing can do but put them back in their case until I get myself some cans.

Lychguards and Immortals

With that on hold, I took out my Necron Destroyer Lord instead. This guy is a beast in close combat and has been so far one of the most important element that allow me those wins. After the third game, I've decided to grant him with a facelift for his accomplishment so far. It took me one whole night to complete the facelift. I must say, I am very much happy with the outcome :-)

Nemessor Zahndrekh

Zahndrekh is a good HQ choice in terms of pointcost and abilities. He has 3 special rules that are seriously good and comes with necessary wargear that compliment any unit he joins. I have used him in several early playtest and 2 friendly games. I must say, he is my favourite Necron HQ at the moment and this is how I used him in my game.

Using The Nemessor

Taking Nemessor is easy, but deciding what unit to accompany this guy will require some thinking. He is not a Phaeron, meaning that we should never attach him to a Warriors or any unit with Rapid Fire weapons. It is either assault weapon or simply forget about shooting. At the same time he wields a Staff of Light and carry one very important item that is the Resurrection Orb (RO). So what unit should we attach him to? For me, there's only 2 unit where we can maximize his potential without becoming a hindrance to the unit --> Immortals with Tesla Carbine and Lychguards.

Zahndrekh and The Immortals

Tesla Carbines works great since it is Assault Weapon and the fact that Immortals are Scoring. Having RO in there makes it several times better at holding an objective. Give them Tank Hunters and they can help you stop Rhinoes or any light vehicles coming at them. Of course, AP- hurts but it worked in several playtests I did. Not good enough? Drop in a Harbinger of Destruction and you now have a mobile Lasscannon (with Tank Hunters) to add to the punch (Solar Pulse is a great help too). But my personal favourite is of course, The old school Immortal and Veil of Darkness (VoD) where the whole table is yours to play with (It was so much better when Gauss Blaster was Assault 2 though).

Zahndrekh and Lychguards

As for Lychguards, they make very good bodyguards for Zahndrekh. I usually take 7-8 Lychguards with Warscythe so they can take out anything from infantries to tanks. But it is difficult to get their points back since they don't have any shooting capabilities. Even worst, they aren't Scoring. Lychguard do seems useless, but it was with their help that I managed two massacre wins against GK and BT.

Lychguards' place are within the enemy line. In order to do that, they always need a mean of which to transport them. Monolith and Night Scythe are a good and safe method, but I prefer Deep Striking (DS) them using the VoD. Cheap and has so far been nothing but effective. Since they don't have any shooting capabilities, you have no worry about them scattering out of range and can simply make them 'Run' during the Shooting Phase to spread out against enemy template. Give them "Counter Assault" if you have to for precaution.

But to what end? We all know DS them on enemy line will only make them die faster. That is partly true but here is the thing. DS-ing Zahndrekh and Lychguard is just part of a bigger plan :-)

Vargard Obyron

Obyron's Ghostwalk Mantle allows him to DS anywhere within 6 inches from Zahndrekh without scatter. This is very good when used in combination with DS-ing Zahndrekh. When I use this ability, it is always to DS 20 Necron Warriors with attached Necron Lord (with RO). 40 S4 + 3 S5 AP3 = FUN!! If you are lucky like I was in the 2 games, Zahndrekh and HoD (AP1 Template) might also be in range to join the fun.

The 2nd Wave

In order to make the plan successfull, it is also very important to take the 2nd wave element into account. The 2nd wave must be something that fast and strong. In my case, I always take a Necron Destroyer Lord accompanied by 6 Wraith (with Whip Coils) for the 2nd wave. Scary stuffs there. Wherever you DS, make sure it is within reach of the 2nd Wave. The opponent will clearly see through it, and that will psychologically effect whatever decision he has to make later on.

What Comes After..

Comes the opponent's turn, they now have to deal with 2 fresh target + the 2nd Wave. Most opponent will concentrate on the much easier and more juicy target --> Necron Warriors. But trust me, unless you are playing against IG, there's nothing much that can take out 20 warriors in a single shooting phase. I have tried several times during playtests but never succeeded. Both my opponents did the same but the results are the same. The best course of action is to beat them in close combat and kill them by Sweeping Advance. But if they choose to go for close combat, there's Obyron in there that might be too strong to handle with his Cleaving Counterblow. Not to mention, they also have to risk being counter charged by the Lychguards and the 2nd Wave. So what is the best course of action? Let them decide.

If the Warriors survived, there's nothing to stop them jumping around into rapid fire range each and every turn, wherever the Nemessor points them to.

Will It Really Work?

You'll never know until you've tried it. I've so far nothing but success. Nothing was more funny than Necrons beating BT and GK in combat. Maybe it is due to luck that I manage to win. But then again, luck is just another weapon to be used by a general.

Well.. that's all for the day. Never wrote something this long before . Dont know if it is gonna be of any use to you all. Just sharing my experience that is something different compared to how other people have been using him out there.

I went through some of my pic and realize I haven't post this rhino yet. It was done about half a year back. I had just received the FW weathering powder set that time and thought that it might be a good test model to try weathering techniques.

I considered it at 95% done. What needed is to paint the Storm Bolter and weather the tracks before it is done.

Damn the new Necrons is so much fun to play with. And two recent wins boost my morale to take out paintset and continue what I have left several years back.

First up is the Necron Lord. It was one of the earliest model painted by me when I entered this hobby. Since the new codex release, he has won me two massacre victories. So I think he deserves some love from me. I spent some 2 hours to facelift this guy and I must say, he now looks several times better than previously. Too bad I forgot to take pic of him before the facelift for comparison.

Next up is the Immortals.. just before I sent them sleeping years back, I have painted seven Immortals in mummy theme. I have now finished painting two more of them. Now there's only one left to paint for a complete squad of ten or 2x5 that I usually play.

And finally, the Destroyer. I never had more than two Destroyers back then. So when a buddy of mine offered 3 Destroyers + 1 Heavy Destroyers at RM185, I was quick to seal the deal. But we all know the current Destroyers sucks bad compares to their previous incarnation. So why bother?

Well.. The destroyers do be sucks, but not them Heavy Destroyers. S9 AP2 on Jump Infantry is not something to ignore, especially when you can give them "Tank Hunter" skills (Zahndrekh). So spent some time and did some conversion using the spare Gauss Cannons I have to make two more Heavy Destroyers with better looking (IMHO :)) Heavy Gauss Cannons. Now I have a fully kitted 5 man Destroyer Squad to accompany my Destroyer Lord in fun games.

I will begin painting them after the last Immortal was done.

I plan to bring my Necrons for the coming MaGaCon (I've not yet submitted any list!!!). But I can never complete my list in time because Hobby Forge ran out of stocks for Necron stuffs the last time I visit there. So I'll bring my World Eaters instead just for fun. There's no way they can easily compete against any recent codex out there.. but that will of course makes winning all the more sweeter isn't it :)

Batrep : Necron vs GK 1750 pts

Finally, The Undying Legion is back in action. They woke up a couple weeks back to find a Black Templar army occupying their tombworld. The Black Templar had no chance at all and were completely annihilated.

The sudden lost of a Templar post by a mysterious force brings about questions and queries amongs the Inquisition. Since the GK stock is now in abundance, it didn't take long for them to agree to send some Paladins to investigate and annihilate the menace once and for all.

THE LIST

NECRON:

THE GAME

Seize Ground (3), Dawn of War, GK goes first.

Deployment :

GK - 5 GKSS occupied the landing platform, securing one objective early on. Both Paladins and a GKSS will deepstrike.

Necron - 2 Immortal units deploy together just 18 inches away from the GKSS on the platform. Destroyer Lord hide behind the watchtower.

1st turn : At Dawn

GM leads the Purgation Squad into battle at the centre of table. But it was the Immortals who drew the 1st blood, killing 3 GKs with their Tesla Carbine.

2nd turn : Veil of Darkness

Using psychic communion, the GK forces held their reserves for another turn. The Necrons took the chance and deepstrike some 20 Warriors and 8 Lychguard near the Purgation Squad. The whole army concentrated their firepower at the Purgation Squad, killing all but a TH guy and the GM while the Destroyer Lord finished the GK on the platform.

3rd Turn (GK) : "Let The Cleansing Begin"

All the reserves drops in and let loose their firepower, killing 1 Lychguard, 1 Immortal and cause 2 wounds to Zahndrekh. The GM + TH Guy assaulted the Warriors + Obyron. Psychostroke Grenades failes but his attacks killed 3 Warriors. In retaliation, the Necrons slew the TH Guy.

3rd Turn (Necron) : Necron Assault !?!

Obyron use Ghostwalk Mantle to pull the Warriors from combat and with the support of the Immortals, they concentrated on the 5 man Paladins, killing 1 model and wounded 3 more. Zahndrekh and the Destroyer Lord leads the Lychguards (Furious Charge) and Wraiths to assault the big Paladin unit, but the Lychguards failed to reach due to Sanctuary. This allows the GK able to win combat easily. They even managed to kill the Destroyer Lord (He came back though), but the Wraiths stay to fight for another round.

4th Turn (GK) : Psychostroke Madness

The GM assaulted the Warriors from behind and rolled 6 for the Psychostroke grenades. At the same time, the 4 man Paladins simultaneous charged the Warriors and Lychguards, and this allows Obyron the escape the effect of the Psychostroke grenades. GM killed 4 Warriors, Paladin killed Zahndrekh while the Warriors butchered each other down to 5 models. The Lychguards managed to kill 2 Paladins but their lost is too great this time. Obyron and Lychguard flee from combat, but the Warriors held their ground with a magnificent "Insane Courage" (Must be the after effect of the Psuchostroke grenades :lol:)

On the other side, the Destroyer Lord took over the mind of a TH wielding Paladin with the Mindshackle Scarabs, and together they killed the Librarian and 2 Paladins. In return, the Paladins killed 2 Wraiths.

4th Turn (Necron) : Necron Warriors Can Fight !?!

The Lychguard rallied and secure the middle objective. Meanwhile one Immortal squad captured the objective on the platform. Somehow the Warriors managed to kill one Paladin and win combat but the GM and lone Paladin held their ground. Meanwhile, the other fight continued with the Paladins being reduced to 2 models.

5th Turn : Total Annihilation

The last strike squad charged the Destroyer Lord in a desperate attempt to save the Paladins but to no avail. The Destroyer Lord killed 3 GKSS, while the Wraiths massacred the Paladins and sent the GKSS running away from battle. Meanwhile, the warriors keeps the GM and lone Paladin (the only GK models left on table) busy for another turn. Came Necron turn, the GK conceded.

THE RESULT

Necron win by annihilation and controls 2 objective. It was a great and fun game where all my gamble paid of. I truly enjoyed this one.

WIP - Razorwing Jetfighter

I've been lazy.. but that doesn't mean I didn't do anything. Here goes my Razorwing Jetfighter. A try at Camo Pattern inspired by Alvin's Raptors (digital camo).

Mine was nothing digital.. too much work. I need something simple but workable. I think I like it enough to take it for a game soon enough.

Dont know what to do with the base though.. bye.

Dark Eldar Raiders

A Raider is compulsory for every DE raid, hence the name. They are fast (the 2nd fastest transport in the game), has a small footprint (easy to hide), good for assault (being open-topped) and carries a Dark Lance/Disintegrator Cannons as standard.

It is to me, a vehicle with the coolest design ever to come from GW. I like every aspect of it, from gameplay to it's look, and currently have 5 of it to have fun with.

Pointcost

At 60 points they are very expensive for a AV10, open-topped vehicle. But then again, when you take into consideration, the cost for Dark Lance or DC into account and then you'll realize that a Raider actually costed 35 pts naked, not so bad for a Fast Skimmer if you ask me.

Weapon of choice

It is hard to choose between Dark Lance and Disintegrator Cannon because i really like both weapons. The former is good for anti-armour while the other is bane of all kinds of MEQ.

Things that influence my weapon choice is the current meta of the game. If say I foresee a lot of armour to handle, of course it will be stupid not to maximize on the Dark Lance. But in all the game I've had far, I always include 2 with Disintegrator Cannon to help with crowd control.

Colour Scheme

As you can see from the picture below, I go for the standard looking colour scheme in the rulebook. For now, my aim is to complete the army as fast as possible for the upcoming Ghemehaal campaign. So I'm not going to do any highlights on it until I have a fully painted army ready. After that.. maybe if I don't jump to another project, I will return to them and finish things properly.

That's it for today. Next I am going to share several tactics that I have about using a Raider. But that is for another day.

Akkarin, Warmaster of The World Eaters

Not much was known about the current Warmaster of the World Eaters Legion. The fact is, no one who has ever lay their eyes on him able to escape with their lives. He is the most favoured champion of Khorne since Angron, and the sign of His favour can be seen upon the Warmaster.

Type : Special Character, Independent Character

Stats : WS7 BS5 S8 T5 I6 W4 A4 Ld10 Sv2+/4++

Special Rules :

1. Insurmountable Rage :

Khorn's rage knows no boundary. He sometimes channeled it to his Champions and the gift was known to many as Rage of Khorne. But for Akkarin, the bond was so strong that even he sometimes had difficulty to control it.

Akkarin has D6 additional attacks. On a roll of 1, the rage is just too much that he lost his grip on reality and will make no attack at all. Instead, he suffers 1 wound with no armour save.

2. Essence of The Unbound :

During Angron accendancy into a Daemon Prince, he set 8 of his favourite Chosens to a contest of might, of which the winner will be his successor.. and shall be given a chalice full of blood. The blood of Aangrath The Unbound.

Akkarin has drank from the chalice. His mortal body is now infused with the essence Aangrath The Unbound. He has S8, T5 and W4. Furthermore, he is immune to Instant Kill.

3. The Brass Armour of Khorne :

The armour was forged on the Deamon World of Khorne. It's durability is unlike any other forged in the material world.

The Brass Armour of Khorne is a suit of terminator armour that confers 4+ invulnerable save. It also count as a Personal Icon.

4. The Blood Talons

The essence of the unbound has mutated his arm several times the size of a normal space marines that his pair of lightning claws can no longer fit his arm. It was during the Battle at Ghemehaal, Akkarin barehandedly crushed a Death Company Dreadnought and took the Blood Talon for himself.

Apocalypse game of 50,000 points. The largest 40k held at Legio so far. It was a classic battle of Good versus Evil. My World Eaters Legion was there with their Maelstrom of Gore. It rains blood..

Behind the enemy lines.. right before the 1st cannon was shot

The mighty Emperor Titan of the Chaos Legion. Even a Stompa pale in comparison.

The Ravenwing leads the attack.. destroying 2 Baneblade in a single turn. Later the Doomsay Device (The Blue Lightning thing) explode killing some 75% of them. The survivors were stomped to death by the Warhound. None of the Ravenwing survives this battle.

My Kamen Rider Lord charges the Assassin but failed to kill him. Later Draigo of The Grey Knights join the combat, easily killing the Kamen Raider in a single stroke.

Imperial Fleet targetting the red stompa with Precision Strike but the big red bully escape unharmed.

The Sun Pirates

My Dark Eldar Kabal of The Black Sun a.k.a. the Sun Pirates. This is the 1st army I have that is not MEQ in armour saves/stats. So i need to really master them before I take them to actual space raid.

I've done several playtesting against my own existing armies. I lost through several early testplay. It was difficult being fragile and naked (especially them wyches). But nowadays (20+ playtest already), the Sun Pirates has grown so much in experience that they never lost any recent playtest.

The list that I used in the most recent playtesting is as below:

The 1st playtest is done and it was a massacre win againsts my World Eaters. The Trueborn unit turns out to be the most cost effective unit in the game. Working together they killed anything with Toughness value that came into their view, leaving nothing for my DC Ravagers to shoot at as they come from reserve.

So for the next playtest (against either RG or 13th Co.), I'll change the Ravager trio setup to 1 with 3 DCs and 2 with DLs too boost my anti-armour capabilities.

This below is the model that I have right now. As you can see, several unit is still missing but it wont be for long.

I have submitted my list and there's no turning back. With everyone keeping their list a secret, I wont reveal it until KII over. Suffice to say here that my 750 list consist of 28 models and up untill today, I only manage to finish 7 of em. Only 14 days to go, and there's still so many things to do. Again I said I wont reveal my list, but it has been so long since my last post. So guys, I'll post some picture of them here just to keep this blog going. This guy below.. will join me in KII.

Kindred II

Kindred II, a team tournament will be held at Legio on 16th April 2011. I was supposed to enter it with my brother CikguDin. Me with my 13th Co. to team up with his Blood Angel army. But alas, he cannot make it.

Luckily it wasn't long before i found a new partner --> Ivan, the People's Choice Award winner from the previous Kindred.

So this post is actually for him to have a look at my army scheme (especially the base) so he can synchronize it with his army plus some progress on my part.

To Ivan : As we can see from the pic below, my base consist of three parts --> soil, snow and grass. Vey simple to do and for you to follow.

Enslaving the Empire : DE vs Empire 2.5k Battle

It was my 4th WFB game against an Empire army that has so far lost only once in 10+ games. It will be a hard game. To win, i must not make any mistake.

The Empire army has no such thing as the invincible Steamtank nor the Handgunners. But they do have 2 Great Cannons and 2 Mortars to deliver death from afar. For my frail dark kin, the large mortar template was the bane of our existence while the cannon was the worst thing to hit our favoured pet, the War Hydra.

The Empire are no less threatening in close combat with 3 large blocks of infantries (Greatswords, Halberdiers and Swordsmen) backed by a level 4 Light Wizard to match the speed of my elves. And they were supported by about 15 Knights of Inner Circle (KoIC) or something with 1+ Armour Save lead by an Arclechtor.

Dawn Attack

It was dawn when we strike at the Empire, and we were very lucky indeed. Our initial strike, lead by the Assassin and 14 Shades manage to destroy one of the great cannon. This was a crutial move that ensure the survival of our War Hydra. Meanwhile the Dark Riders perform a hit and run manuver to pull the enemy Greatswords (GS) to within The Black Guard (BG) charging range.

The BG's charge was as great as always, but The Greatswords, imbued with The Speed of Light is no easy meat with their WS of 10. But we the Dark Elves are much superior being, Our Tower Master easily slain the GS Champion in a Challenge followed by a Lvl 2 Sorcerer in the later turn. In the 2nd round of combat, the combat was joined by the charging KoIC lead by the . The Great Master Erwin Draco, wielding The Soulrender challenged the Archlector in a duel which last for several rounds.

It was then that our Noble Cold One Knights charged the KoIC from the flank, and the Black Ark Corsairs to the flank of the GS and almost seal the fate of the Empire. Almost. The KoIC was Unbreakable, while the GS was insanely courageous (double 1s!!) that day. Meanwhile, after trading blows for 3 rounds, Master Erwin's blade finally come into contact with the Archlector's neck.. severing it completely off his body. The Archlector's head will be another trophy to adorn his dining table.

By this time, the horde of Swordsmen is readying to flankcharge my CoKnight. But their advanced was distrupted by our wickedly beautiful High Sorceress. Having eaten The Black Dragon's Egg, she unleashed the Noxious Breath to the column of warriors, killing more than a third of the swordsmen. The swordsmen were not panicked, but they were so much affected by the Noxious Breath that they failed in their attempt to charge my CoKnights (Note: Unit suffering casualty from Noxious Breath must pass Ld check at -3 if they want to charge). Without the Swordmen to support them, the GS and KoIC cannot stand any longer and was massacred completely. The winner succesfully reform and readying themselve to charge the Swordsmen in the next turn.

The War Hydra was lucky to suffer no injury as of yet and still retain it's breath weapon at the highest level (Strength 5). All these time the Dark Riders has been trying to goad the enemy to within it's range, but not with great success. What they failed to do was done spectacularly by the annoyingly accurate Shades and their Repeater Crossbow. The Halberdiers finally have had enough being harrassed by these Shades and charged them. The Shades hold their ground and die instantly (7 against 27 halberdiers.. hahaha). But their sacrifices set up the Halberdiers flank directly in front of the War Hydra. The set up was perfect and the War Hydra happily burned some 20+ halberdiers to death with its breath weapon, followed by a charge later on to finish the remaining survivors.

Just as the sun is nearing it's peak, The CoK along with Master Erwin Draco simultaneously charge the Swordsmen unit (frontal charge). The frail Wizard Lord was no match against Master Erwin, his blade easily cleaved the wizard into two while the CoK skewer some Swordmen with their lances. It was brutal and the Empire survivors completely surrender to the might of the Dark Elves.

Later that evening, long column of human slaves can be seen herded towards the sea, where the Black Arks is waiting to take them back to the Land of Chill. They are now slaves to the Dark Elves, for the rest of their life (That is, of course.. if they survive the journey hahaha!)

Conclusion

The mortars were scary, even with just two can easily wipeout my Black Guards. But Arzmi made a huge mistake when he ignored them completely. It cost him the GS, KoIC, a lvl 2 Mage and the Archlector (Some 800 points in there i believe hahaha!). Now that he knew better, I dread the day when we meet again on the battlefield.

But for now, it was a spectacular win for me and my Fullmetal Sorceress. And the slaves.. simply said, Lord Malekith was happy :).

The 8th Edition WFB

I recently got to play 3 games of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. It was fun.. hell lot of fun compares to the previous Ed. The changes they made to the game was huge and it all makes the game more eventfull for both players.

The scenario and terrain special rules is great. It really brings out the mysterious aspect of the fantasy world that was lost all this time. Fantasy is after all, a word full of magic and the rules reflect it well enough. The terrain can be dangerous or hepfull, but you wont know it untill you sent your men to venture into it. Of course you can always play them as normal forest, river or hills, but where's the fun :)?

The movement phase is now several times easier than before. And there's just so many things you can do in the movement phase now compares to before. Tactica reform is faster and charging was made easier. The greatest change of all is the affect of terrain on movements. Gone were the days where moving through terrain is the worst possible thing to happen to your army, which resulted in most table being devoid of any terrain features --> damn boring.

Magic. The changes to the 8 lores of magic was great. Never have I thought I would use any of them before. Now lore of Shadows and Metal is amongst the best my High Sorceres have in her arsenal. The changes to magic phases also good in ensuring a balance magic phase for both player.

Close combat continues to be the game-winning aspect of WFB. Even better now, the owly troops finally had their chance in the game. They can actually turn the tabe around with the Horde, Step Up and Steadfast rules in play. Couple that with Okkam's Mindrazor and you'll see even the Dreaded Blood Knights flee from a mob of lowly troops. Lovely :)

After having 3 games, I'm now even more eager to have my next fantasy battle. It was just so fun and so much more to explore in the world of fantasy. And so I invite you all to have a try at The 8th Ed. WFB. It will be worth your time. Trust me :).

Go to Hobbyforge. Was hoping to fight Syamel's Space Wolves. But he cannot make it. So I end up playing my World Eaters against Shaun's Space Marines. Manage to kill everything except the Captain and Cassius (This guy with only one wound left, survived countless lasscannon and Dakkashots. His saves and FnP rolls are damn good!!) Could have win it, but the game goes on to turn seven, in which he manage to pull a draw with his lone Captain.

Bought myself some stuffs -

The WFB rulebook (It's damn heavy!!);
Dark Elf Corsairs - now my Corsairs is complete;
The SW Battleforce - Time to get serious with the Sons of Russ; and
The Thunderwolf Cavalry set from Philipines - Thank god it finally arrives.

My wife is due to deliver my 3rd child in November. Which means, anyday from now the contraction might suddenly kicks in. So I dont think I'll be able to visit Hobbyforge nor Legio untill everything has settle down here. Hopefully I may be around for Legio Tournament, but who knows kan.

Hi all,

I remember last year when Alvin ask me about this guy and I said, "He is useless". Well.. I changed my mind about him already. This guy simply rocks in the 8th ed.

With boost in Terror rules and the rise of big blocks of troops, his Helm of The Kraken (Terror and Regeneration)and The Red Blades (Attacks = 3 + enemy ranks) is now very effective and his Slaver (double victory points for captured units) rules may turn the game result from Draw to Win. All this makes him a worthy buy at 250pts.

As I am about to paint my Black Ark Corsair, might as well start with this guy. Even if I don't usually play him, I can always use the model as the Unit Champion. I dont like the colour scheme in the DE Army Book (too many colours) and choose a full red colour scheme instead as to look more like an Octopus.

I dont really like the GW witches. Not sexy enough, unlike the artworks of them in the rulebook. So for my witches, I used the Lanyfs model instead. Nothing screams SEXY louder than these models!! :)

Painted 10 girls, but then decided I wont be using them in favour of Shades and Cold One Knights. So enough lah for now.

With the coming of the 8th Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle, I decided to stop all my 40k project and have a relook at my Dark Elves. There is still so much to do since last time half of the army was borrowed from Nik Kamal. Now that he is going back to Sabah, I need to finish my DE quick in order to participate in the future WFB event held by Legio.

The very 1st thing I look at is the Dreadlord Akkarin I painted for last year's tourney. A Dreadlord deserves better look than this. So I decide to repaint him to befit a magnificent Dreadlord of Naggaroth.

Having reread the DE Army Book a few time, I decide to paint the armour as "Armour of Midnight" own by Malekith himself. Black shining armour that glitters like the night sky even during the day using the same technique I used on the Raven Guard Master of The Watch. I hope I captures the essence of the armour correctly.

As for the blade, I painted it to be "The Crimson Death" - sword version. It can also be "The Destroyer" if I want to use this model to represent Malekith on Cold One.

At first I thought I wanna repaint the whole Cold One model too. But looking back at the number of unpainted model I have to paint, decided enough is enough lah.

After a month I finally regain access to Blogspot. Yeay!! Not much time so I'll do a simple recap on what happened since my last post.

Legio Birthday Event, 3rd July 2010

Legio Birthday Bash - The Tournament of Skulls (1.5k) is a blast!! It was the very 1st time I entered my Raven Guard for a tourney and I must say, they performed quite well with a draw, a defeat and a lost. But winning is not the most important thing in this tourney, it is the slaughter that counts the most. My Raven Guard able to grab 8 Skull Tokens (lovely counters for my World Eaters - thanks Legio ;) ) even with my sloppy playstyle hahaha.

Best of all, my Raven Guard army won Best Appearance, Raven Guard Command Squad won Silver Medal for Unit Entry and The Master of The Watch --> People's Choice Award. All that extra effort, to be appreciated is a great boost to me. Not to mention even with just one win, my Raven Guard able to reach the 4th place in overall for the Tournament of Skull. It just proved that my decision to let go of my "Overly Competitive" approach and adapt to "Fun Hobby Gaming" as a right choice after all.

The 8th Ed., Warhammer Fantasy Battles

The long awaited "new" game system is finally here. Much changes has been done and I must say, I like them all!! It was a good move by GW after they almost kill the game with the 7th Ed. Too bad coz WFB has always been my favourite (several times more than 40k). And so i decided to put my 13th Co. Space Wolves project on hold and take out my Dark Elves instead. Time to battle with might and magic! Hopefully I can go grab some fantasy games soon.

Home Sweet Home

I will be moving to my new house in Putrajaya in a few days. New and bigger house = new and bigger hobby room for myself! Starting from next month, the new Skullthrone will be ready for action. I wellcome all who comes to Putrajaya to give me a call, and we can have a nice game or two :).

A month have passed ..

.. since the last post. The month has not been very productive. I manage to paint several models, sculpt some raven skulls for a yet unnamed RG character, but not as much as I as planned to do.

I bought Din's Iron Warriors consisting of:

20 Warriors - 2 Plasmagun, 2 Flamers, 2 PFist
15 Havocs - 8 HBolter, 3 Missile Launchers, 1 Lasscannon,

I dont know yet what to do with them.. but the plan is to convert them into The 13th Co. Space Wolves. We'll see.

I am still waiting for my 5 Thunderwolves from Philipine, bought as a batch along with Cookie_Yip and Salleh. The seller has been taking so long to deliver our goods. Luckily, Yip has been able to contact the guy, and all we can do now is wait for it.

I had to put my Venerable RG Dread on hold coz I'm out of Chaos Black already. Need to go get some more paints this week. Will visit Games Castle this weekend.

Talk about GC.. the place will close down soon. I hear by the end of July. It will be one of the saddest moment in my life. I simply love GC very much. My hobby grew with GC. It was like my 2nd home before getting married. I pray Richard all the best with his life.

I spent 2 nights doing some Razorback turrets. Until last night, i have made :

i. Left Razorback - magnetized turret : TL Lasscannon, TL HBolter (not finished yet) and the Lasscannon+TL Meltagun. Can also become a Whirlwind if i want to.
ii. Right Razorback - swappable turret : TL Assault Cannon, TL Lasscannon, TL HBolter

I also bought myself the Sanguinary Guard models. Assembled them to be my RG Honour Guards. The Chapter Champion wields a Thunder Hammer taken from the Masters of the Chapter set.

Single Parenting

My life changed so much since the birth of my twins. No more luxury time for painting and gaming. After, 2 months of rest, my wife went back to work some 120 km away up North, taking my twins along with her. Only during weekends, do I have the opportunity to be with my kids. Sometimes, I went there after work to spend the night with them and drove back to work the next morning. It goes on like that for about 5 months.

It was difficult for my wife, taking care of my kids alone. So I've decided to ease her burden a bit by taking my baby girl to live with me. It was difficult at first, but as the time goes by, I'm now used to it.

So now everyday after work I spent my time with my daughter untill around 9 pm, and then try to put her to sleep so that I can do my hobby thing. My schedule was tighter than before, but it was worth it. It was fun in fact.. and I love every second of it :).

Mission : Capture and Control
Highlights:
i. It was a hard list to fight. Monsters and monsters and some more monsters is killing my marines.
ii. The Carnifexes landing close to my home objective means there's no way I can hold that objective anymore. Which leaves me only one option available. Capture the Tyranids home objective!! More importantly, that makes the game a lot more fun than just defending my own turf.

iii. Things get messy very fast, the Tervigons keep on spawning countless Termagants to block my forces.

iv. Luckily The Vulture and his unit is around to support them. v. But jumping out of terrain kills 2 assault marines, enough to force morale check and guess what.. They failed and led by The Vulture, they flee of the table.

vii. Seeing their leader fleeing the battle cracks the morale of my other marines. The Tacticals suddenly decide to abandon their cause and run away from battle, just as they are several inches from enemy objectives.

viii. But the Terminators keep on fighting. They killed a Tervigon, slaughter Termagants and contest the objective by the end of turn 6.

Result : Draw. Despite all the monsters and the difficulties, this is by far the funniest and enjoyable game I've ever had with my Raven Guard.

Raven Guard Assault Squad I - Finally!!

This is a lil bit shame to me. I have begin doing them long time ago but has never been able to finish them. This is mainly becaused of their not so great performance on table. Last week, alone, I pick them up and restart the painting process and after a few while begin picking up the speed again.

RG Assault Squad I, getting ready for a charge

The Sargeant used to wield a pair of claws before, but i want him to have the chance to kill ICs, take out vehicles and stun monsters. So I takeout the claws and give him a Thunder Hammer instead. It was a TH from the Assault Terminator sprue, cut at the elbow and attached to a right bolter arm. With a small conversion to the left bolter arm, he now look as if wielding the TH with 2 hands.

After doing some recalculation to my list, I find out that i can squeez in another unit worth 100pts into my list. There is a few options that i like:
i. 2nd unit of 2 Attack Bikes with Multimelta;
ii. Land Speeder Typhoon;
iii. 5 man Snypers with HBolter and Camo;
iv. a Librarian.

Though i like the Attack Bikes the most, I choose the Typhoon for the simple reason that i already have the model. A Typhoon is also actually quite effective on the battlefiled for both anti-armour and anti-infantry roles, making it very versatile for all our need. All that i have to do is to paint it into my Raven Guard colour scheme (It was painted Blood Angel before).

After a week of painting, I'm finally done. Enjoy..

Mission: Seize Ground (5), Pitch Battle, Eldar goes 1st
Highlights:
i. Shrike lead the 5 Termies right in the centre of table. Fleeting gives them the 1st turn charge on 3 Warwalkers. Later, they were doomed and charged by furious Banshees. But luck is on my side that day and Shrike+2 Termies remains as the victor of the great melee.
ii. They were later shot by 2 Guardian squads, killing Shrike and a terminator. The lone Terminator Sargeant climbed a low mound and jump right on the Guardians. The high ground proves to be an advantage as he single handedly fought and win every round of combat. But the Guardians are too stubborn and held their ground.
iii. In the end, Eldrad, his Seer Council and 4-5 Guardians left alive while Raven Guard loses their Commander, 5 Terminators and 5 Marines.

Result: Raven Guard wins by 3-0 objectives. It was a great victory for the Sons of Corax.

Drop Pod 01 : Extra Effort

I went to GC that Saturday. But I arrived too late (10.30 pm), there's no game to be had :(. Luckily, gaming isn't my only reason to be there. I was also there to get some hobby stuffs --> Iyanden Darksun, Adeptus Battlegrey, Sunburst Yellow and a Standard Brush.

Around 12.30, me, The Warboss Nik Kamal and Kai The Great Devourer lepak² at mamak with eating satay and chat about the new kids on the block --> The Tyranids!! Kai seems so happy with the new codex, I can only hope he'll pick up his brushes and begin painting his huge collection of Nids.

Arrived home at 2.00 am. My wife and kids were sound asleep and so i decided to do some painting while I can. I took out my newly finished Drop Pod and the Iyanden Darksun, and begin doing the yellow stripes. About an hour later, satisfied with the Drop Pod improved paint job, I went to sleep besides my babies.

RG Drop Pod

The 1st of the 2 Drop Pods given to me by my wife a year back, finally completed. I use only a single Drop Pod in my current list, so this Drop Pod will be the only one painted for now.

I'll be going back to Tg. Malim this Friday evening. Luckily, Legio is along the route from here to there so i might be able to drop by and roll some dice. I'll bring my Dark Elves for some WFB action. My list as usual will be:

Core: 20 DE Warriors, 10 Dark Riders
Special: 18 Black Guards, 12 Shades, 5 Cold One Knights
Rare: a War Hydra

If there's no WFB player around, I'll play my RG instead :

I had a game with the Mad Doc Selvam's Dwarven army led by Thorek Ironbrow himself. Thorek and the Anvil of Doom is a nasty piece. This is the 1st time i saw AoD in play and was shocked to see it's effectiveness.

That 2d6 S4 Lightning and the ability to move units into charge is a nice ability that has a lot of potential in affecting the game. The best thing is that it is casted in the shooting phase, which means it can never be dispelled!!

But my Dark Elves learned well and fast. And lead by Dreadlord Akkarin, they fought the Dwarves find glory for Naggaroth. Akkarin himself slew the Dwarf Thane in a challenge. (Akkarin died a few seconds later from 20 angry dwarven axes hahaha)

My 3 Assassins proved their worth once again in this game. Entreri even Killing Blowed Thorek in their duel.

Result:
The dwarves completely annihilated. Only 11 Dark Elves dead (including Dreadlord Akkarin)It was a Massacre!!

RG vs Eldar

Sukai ask for another game vs my Raven Guard. It was a Seize Ground (5) mission, Pitch Battle deployment and i allow him to deploy 1st.

His luck was overwhelming with countless of successfull saves. His Avatar survives countless lasscannon, plasmagun and autocannon shots (even when not Fourtuned) suffering only 2 wounds when the game ended on turn 7.

Luckily Shrike and his band of fleeting Assault Marines succeed in their suicide mission to kill every single Eldar troops. This enabled me to win the game with a lead by 1 objective.

What's left on turn 7:
RG - 2 Attack Bikes, Dreadnought, Drop Pod, 3 Predators, 4 Tacticals.
Eldar - Avatar, Eldrad, 3 Banshees, an immobilised Serpent.

When Robert Jordan died 2 years back, i thought that was the end of my favourite band of heroes in the Wheel of Time saga. Just yesterday i find out the book 12 is out and kicking all around the globe.

The Gathering Storm, Book 12 of the Wheel of Time series. RM100 + at Kinokuniya. Cant wait to get my own copy :)

I am not a good writer, but i still wanna say a little bit about the story.

It is a story about 3 kampung boy who was destined to lead the world against the shadows. Each of them is like a pillar supporting a pyramid. If any of them die, the pyramid will fall, and so does the world will fall to the darkness. Even with them around, humanity has only a slightest chance at victory, for the situation is very critical, the forces of shadows is overwhelming, and the world is not yet prepared.

Rand Al'Thor

(The Dragon Reborn)

He is the reincarnation of a the mightiest leader of mankind during the Age of Wonders. The prophecy mentioned him as the saviour of the world against the shadows. He will defeat the Dark One, and destroy the world in doing so.

He is the most powerfull user of the One Power (magics) alive. Able to defeat an army of 40,000 strong in a single channeling. But even without the One Power, he was trained in the swordplay to a Swordmaster level. A very dangerous man, especially since his sanity is in questions.

He leads with iron will, almost a tyrant, something that he think is necessary or humanity have no chance at all.

(The Gambler/Trickster)

This cheerfull, happy go lucky lad is probably the best general alive in the world. He died once, and came back alive with his memory filled with experiences of hundreds of generals who lived and died during the Warring States era.

In battle he rides atop his horse (named Pips), weilding his A'shandarei (a power wrought spear) accompanied by his unending streams of good luck that was his trademark. He is immune to the effect of the One Power and a very skilled fighter with either his spear of dagger, making him a very dangerous fighter.

He leads The Band of Red Hand, named after a legendary warband during the warring era. The Band never suffered any lost, and his followers loved him because of that. "It's time to toss the dice", the tagline of The Band associated to Mat's superbly good luck.

(The Wolf King)

A former Blacksmith, now a King. He is said to be the saviour after the world is destroyed by Rand in the last battle. He is a wolfbrother, able to communicate with the wolves and calls for their aid in battles. He goes to battle with his axe in hand. Cleaving and chopping like madness everything in his path. No special training in combat, his brute strength is what makes him a great fighter.

He leads by his charisma. Whatever he said, people will believe, and people will follow. Loved by all, his charisma is overwhelming even to the leader of another country to kneel before him.

Raven Guard Rhino - WIP

I hate painting vehicles, walkers and all large scale models. But there's no use complaing but to do it. And I have 9 vehicles (1 Razorback, 2 Rhinoes, 2 Predators, 1 Whirlwind/Predator, 2 Drop Pods and a Crusader) to paint for my Raven Guard. They are all currently in Pitch Black colour.

So i take one of my Rhinoes and begin painting. This is what i have achieved so far.

Sukai asked me for another game yesterday. The last time I fought him was using my Shrike's build vs his Eldrad list. It ended in a draw due to my mistake in the final round.

My guess is he will bring either his Eldar again (for payback) or his Ultrmarines (He just love his Calgar :) ). This time i wanna try different playstyle and so i choose Kantor instead to lead my Raven Guard.

i. LR survived 4-6 LC per turn unscathed. Luckily, my Sargeant manage to destroyed it on turn 4 with his Combi-Melta;

iii. Cassius vs Master Apis.. Master Apis wins!!
iv. Sicarius vs Master Apis!!.. Master Apis Victorius!!

Mechanizing My Raven Guard

I finally have enough tanks for my Raven Guard. 1 Razorback, 2 Rhinoes, 2 Predators and a Whirlwind.
The Whirlwind is taken from my World Eaters Legion's Predator. When in need, it can undergo weapon swap into the 3rd Predator.

My Raven Guard
Raven Guard is a chapter that excels in guerilla warfare, in scare tactics, in reconnaisance and sabotage. It is true and nothing but the truth in there. But there is another side of the story about the Raven Guard. There is more to Raven Guard than just Scouts, Drop Pods, Jumpacks and Lightning Claws.

Deliverance, the home planet of The Raven Guard Chapter has the capacity of a small forgeworld. It has the capacity to produce all these wonderfull weapons and tanks. As an Army General, isn't it weird for me to not utilised all these wonderfull resources?

In a battle, my Raven Guard strikes hard from the very beginning. Before the battle, Captain Ahmad Sharji lead his band of infiltrators deep into the enemy lines. Waiting for the dawn, when it was the best moment to strike.

As soon as The Blessed Brother Kumbang landed in his Drop Pod, Captain Ahmad Sarji and his Jumpackers will hit hard on the enemy's weakest element. This will draw the attentions away from the Rhinoes that suddenly came out of their concealment, bearing the Tactical Squads. The 2nd Assault Squad and Attack Bikers close behind.

Meanwhile, missiles after missiles shots came out of nowhere into the enemy line, pinning the infantries and further adding to the confusion. And to the eyes of the doomed enemy, multiple green streaks of Lasscannons can be drawn from far away, blasting their tanks and APC into charred remains.

When it work, the battle usually ended fast. Just nice for the Subuh prayer :)

3 fun games, but no pics?

My battery went out, so no pic to show. I played 3 fun games, 2 with my Raven Guard and a fantasy game with my DE.

1st game : Raven Guards vs Orkses
Mission : Annihilation, Dawn of War
Hightlights:
- Shrike + 20 Assault Marines (2 TH&SS) charged 8 Nobz (2 PK, 1 Painboy) + Warboss. Result: Dead Shrike and 13 other marines. Only 2 nobz dead.
- Lone Assault Sargeant fought 5 Nobz+Warboss in the 3rd round of combat. He survived 4 normal and 6 PK attacks!!
Result : RG has 2 Preds and 2 Tacticals Squad left while the orkses, a Warboss and 4 Nobz. But still, RG lost by 1 killpoint.

2nd Game : Dark Elves vs Tzeentch-Khorne Chaos list (Joe's)
Highlights :
- Joe's roll sucks bad. 1 and 2 all the way early in the game. That greatly reduced the effectiveness of his heavy magic army.
- My roll was too good to be true. They are damn high even in Leadership test. i failed almost all my psychology test and test for rally. Even my Lord and Cold One Knights failed their stupidity check at the most crutial turn
- My CC Assasin single handedly took out 5 man Maruder horsemen (1st turn charge) , 3 man Khorne Knights (2nd Turn) and another 3 man Chaos Knights (4th Turn). Hatred + Rune of Khaine + Killing Blow rocks!!
- Gateway is a scary magic. Casted on 15+, and Joe never rolled a misscast in all 6 turns, on the 5th turn Joe used that magic to send my Assasin and a unit of 5 Shades (who finally succeed to rally)to oblivion.
- In the end The Chaos Horde was pushed to just the High Sorcerer and 2 Marauder horsemen.
Result : A minor victory for the Dark Elves

3rd Game : Raven Guard vs Eldar (Jain Zar & Eldrad)
Mission : Seize Ground (3 Obj), Spearhead
Highlights :
- Shrike + 10 Jumpackers infiltrate and cause havoc in the eldar enemy lines. It took both Jain Zar's squad and Eldrad's Dire Avengers to finally end the chaos and slay Shrike.
- 10 man Dire Avengers with Defend, Shimmershield and fortuned.. Damn keras!!
Result : Raven Guard win controlling 2 objectives. The Eldar hold none.

I really need to get a new battery pack for my cammera.

I like this list. Not enough vehicles though and need to use my WE Rhinoes and Preds. Still waiting for the shipment of my 2 Rhinoes to arrive. Then, I'm thinking to get 2 Predators to complete the list.

Did testplay the TH&SS for Assault Sargeant and fell in love with them instantly. I'll keep them in the list for now.

The Inquisition Wars - Aftermath

It is finally over. The war between the two Inquisitor is finally over. The Reds has triumphed over the Black ones. And my World Eaters has played a large role in bringing down the Black Inquisitor.

It was quite funny actually. When i made this tourney list, i was aiming for a fun and fluffy World Eaters list. I also drop my 2 Daemon Princes just because i want people to see my lovingly crafted Winged Lord Ammar.

Even at a glance, people can see straight away that this isn't a very strong list. And the loses I suffered during playtest just shows that my list belongs to the middle tier.

Lord Ammar's Eastern Barbaric Skullcrusher

1st Game : VS. Ceiran's CSM
My 1st opponent was Ceiran's Khornate Army.
I was the Defender and he, the Attacker. We fought untill turn 6 and I manage to kill/destroy everything in his army except his Terminator Lord who is hiding inside his Land Raider. I only lost my Termies, Oblits and a Dakka Pred.

Result : WE win 16 - 5

2nd Game : VS Iz's Mad Mobz
My 2nd game was against the Defending Champion - Warboss Iz's and his mad mobs of bullies. I never had a chance to fight him before and suddenly it happened, in a tourney. Just look at those Nobz Bikers, 9 of them!!
Iz won the 1st turn but gave it to me, so in the 1st turn i decided to forget about the mission. I moved all my key units into the stonehenge, as close as possible to his bikers and the Ard Boys (led by Mad Doc Grotsnik). It was an open challenge, a challenge that the proud Warboss cannot run away from.

By the 3rd turn, Iz conceded the game after losing all his key units. Not to mention, his Gretchins (in reserve) failed to come in (prolly ran away after watching their great Warboss slain in battle is my guess heheh). In the end, I still have all my units except for the Lord and 2 Rhinoes.

Result : WE win 18 - 6

3rd Game : VS. Saim Han

After our mishap that hobby night, Khairul and me was destined to fight in tourney. I hate fighting Eldar, my army cannot handle the mobility of Eldar and this is proven in my testplay at GC where i lost 2 games vs Eldar.

Much worst, this list has Eldrad, and he seized the Initiative. Truly the worst case scenario.

2 of my Rhinoes were Wrecked in the 1st turn and that greatly demoralised me. But i just keep on playing as usual, runing my Berserkers (in between ruins) towards the Eldar. Luckily for me, Khairul tends to make a lot of mistake (some are big enough mistakes) and I use that to my advantage and grab my 3rd win.

In the end, only a Prism and a Falcon (Saim Han) survive the game while i only lost a Lord and 3 Rhinoes.

Result : WE win 18-6

In the end, I was placed 3rd under my brother, Din, and the New Grandmaster - Sujin (All hail the Grandmaster!!). I lost by Appearance (6/9 points) and Sportsmanship (3/9 points).

It was a great event. Ave Legio!!

The very 1st..

The servants of the Star Gods, the soulless Necrons are my very first army. It all begin waaay back in 2004, thanks to my brother Din.

The centre Wraith is the very first model i painted in this hobby. Followed by the other two, These Wraiths are the very first full squad i painted. I was very new to this hobby and was so unskilled with the brush. My idea was to give a very ghostly robotic look to the Wraiths which ended pretty good for a noob :lol: Done with the 3 Wraiths, i proceed to the core of the Necron army, The Necron Warriors. After painting a few models, i got bored and decide to have a try at some conversion work. The model below is my very first conversion. I have converted 4 more warriors before i was satisfied and decided to continue with the painting. Quite nice eh.. firing gauss blaster with one hand :)
My Necrons have been out of the spotlight for a very long time. Guess i should post something about them every now and then to keep the engine warm enough untill the new codex arrive.

Okay, I've made up my mind... I will keep my Raven Guard.. and if it happens that I wanna play SW, I'll play them as a SW 3rd Founding Chapter - Clan Blackhawks instead :)

Of course i'll keep them WYSIWYG for both armies. Like these models below, they'll be the Clan Blackhawk's Grey Hunter with Mark of The Wulfen.

Besides the four Wulfen above, I have 2 more unpainted wulfen. Do call me if you want them for your own SW army.

Now back to my RG, i manage to grab a game last Saturday with my Raven Guard. Played against Andy's Eldar, this time lead by Yriel and Eldrad.

Mission : Annihilation (1750pts)

Deployment : Pitch Battle, RG goes 1st

Result : RG wins by 5 - 4 = 1 kill point

Dilemma : RG or SW?

A Space Wolves with the Mark of Wulfen. But if you see carefully, He has the Raven Guard insignia on his shoulder pad. How come?
Actually, I am currently at a dilemma. I fell in love with RG back in the last codex because they are CC-based army. They can have up to 6 Jumpack squads and all units may take furious charge. Being a CC fan like i am, it was a very interesting army to build and play with. But then came the new codex, and all they have is "Fleet" which i dont want. Yes they are fast, but to what end? They are fast but lack the punch to deal the blow. And the option for CC punch is in the Vanguard, which to me is unplayable due to their high point cost.

Now came the new Space Wolves codex. And I saw once again, an opportunity for a good CC-based army. But i dont wanna go buy new minis since i dont have the time to assemble and paint them. Should i forsake my RG, and repaint them as SW?? Or should I keep them as Raven Guard, but play them using the SW codex??

Last weekend was a blast! I had 5 games in total and all of it was fun. Knowing this was my only chance to play untill the tourney, i decided to have a go with my list. To see if my slightly fluffy list can still cause some havoc or not. My list is as follow:

The 1st game was in Friday at Legio. I fight a guy I never met before. His name is Izwan and he plays Black Legion. His plays Abbadon & Kharn list.
Mission : Annihilation

Result : Black Legion annihilated on turn 5
I was supposed to play my 2nd game against a Saim Han army. Waited for 2.5 hours and then learned that the player had to play against Iqbal. I was quite dissapointed but what to do.. Eldar with their mindtricks.. I went back that night and pray for more games tomorrow.

The next day (Saturday @ GC).. The 1st game was against a very problematic army for my WE. It was a skimmer list. 4 Wave Serpent and 3 Falcon.
Mission : Seize Ground (4)
Deployment : Spearhead (See below), WE goes 1st
Result : Eldar win by 1 objective (turn 7).
3rd game was against Karim's Eldar. Too bad the boy need to go back early so we had to stop on turn 5. Else the result would be different.
Mission : Seize Ground (4)
Deployment : Spearhead (See below), WE goes 1st
Result : Eldar win by 1 objective.

Next is against Andy's Eldar.
Mission : Capture & Control
Deployment : Spearhead WE goes 1st
Result : WE win by 1 objective (turn 5).

On Sunday (@ GC) .. Finally I had the chance to go against the new uber Codex : Space Wolves. My opponent Syamil takes Njal Stormcaller to lead his army.
Mission : Capture & Control
Deployment : Spearhead (See below), SW goes 1st
Result : Draw (Turn 3).
It was a good fight for the Berserkers. But just when it was getting better and better, my opponent got to go. The picture below shows our Turn 3 (game ends). See how my WE are getting closer and closer. 2 more turns.. and the game is ours.

2 Wins, 2 Loses and a Draw. Not bad.. :)

Got myself a Razorback

Bought a Razorback from my brother Din, still NIB and sealed for RM90. It will be the ride for Captain Amir Amzah and his Command Squad.

Never played a Razorback before, so i don't know how they fare in games. 40pts is cheap enough for a transport with TL-HBolter. I'd say yes to that anytime.

About the weapon option, I think I would just stick to the HBolter. The other weapon options are just way too expensive for an AV11 vehicle. 25pts for a TL-HFlamer(??) and that is the cheapest. Maybe i'll add in a Storm Bolter or Hunter Missile to it for added punch.

Vindicator for Sale!

This Vindicator has been around since those days when my brother (Din) plays the Iron Warriors. It was painted in the IW colours back then (By Dann if i'm not wrong). But even then, Din rarely play with it, prefering the Basilisk's Earthshaker Cannon compares to short ranged Demolisher Cannon. And this Vindicator sat there on the shelf for a very long time, collecting dust.
Back in the 3.5 CSM dex, my WE has no use for the Vindicator. But comes the 4.0 codex, i saw the Vindicator as a great assault vehicle to compliment my Rhinoes. Imagine 3 Rhinoes rushing forward, and a Vindicator in between throwing S10 shells. Nice.. But even my WE use the Vindicator only once in a while. It spent most of it's time inside the travelling box. I did spray it with the colour of the Blood God, but left the detailing for later.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been thinking to finish the Vindicator. I have even taken it out from the box. But then my wife deliver my twin, all the time i had for painting is spent looking after my babies.. It once again sit there on the shelf untouched.

Yesterday Din told me Vinder wants this Vindicator for his new SM army and wants me to post it here for Vinder to see. The picture below is for size comparison. It is slightly smaller than the current Rhino chassis. It is a metal model and a bit heavy. The chaos bits are all superglued to it, but since it is metal, taking it off and cleaning wont be a hard thing to do.

If it happens that Vinder dont want this Vindicator, it will be open for sale to all of you guys out there.

On Sept. 26th (Saturday), i finally got my chance to go to GC. So i grab my WE bag and went for a game. There's quite a crowd in there but they are all either into Spacehulk, D&D, painting or plainly just hanging around for fun.

I asked around and finally got a game. Against a new player with his Eldar forces. His army was majority still under painting. He has enough models assembled for a 1750 game so we game in no time :).

Turn 1: The table setup was biased towards the Eldar (I was the one who set it that way hahah). That red-shirt guy is my opponent. I go 1st and speed towards his line.

End of WE's Turn 2: Both Raptor Squads and Termies came too early. Predators pound one Guardian Squad, forcing the survivors to flee. Eldar circled around towards the left, aiming for my lone Lass-pred.
End of Eldar's Turn 3: 1 Lass-pred, 1 Dakka-pred, 1 Rhino destroyed. WE controlled both objectives.
End of WE's Turn 4: Lots of bad rolls, Lord Ammar fought a Warwalker and rolled 1 for his DW. Later he was stomped to death. WE controlled 2 objectives.

End of Turn 5 (End game): Eldar do what they always do in the 5th turn. Contest objectives. I see it long before it happens, but dont think the distance is enough for him to reach both objectives. Failing that, i believe i can win in Turn 6. But then the game ended with a roll of 1.

Result: The game ended in a draw.

Lesson learned: Try to avoid wrong judgement.

It was on September 18th, 2009, Friday at 11.03a.m. , my wife gave birth to a girl. Later at 11,28a.m. another baby was born. This time, a boy. The girl was named Alya (Height) Batrisyia (Intelligent/clever) and the boy Ammar (Strength of faith) Bakhtiar (Happiness).

This is by far, the coolest WE Lord I have sver seen. In fact, the coolest model in Terminator Armour.

I found this almost a year back. Since then, this model has been my inspiration to go better myself in this hobby.

Me and my World Eaters

I have been playing the World Eaters for 5 years now. It all began when i found 2 boxes of Berserkers under my bed. They belongs to Din, I was (at that time) living in his house. I already have a Necron army that time, but i don't Necrons are my style. I prefer Close Combat more than anything else. Necrons are just not belong to that category. Din allows me to have those Berserkers and so began my descent into the Realm of Khorne.

As with all of His champion, I struggled much to make my WE live up to their reputation. It was hard, the Blood Frenzy almost makes the army unplayable. My list During the early years is as below:

I lose almost all my games. It was very disencouraging to go forward. The worst defeat is when i fought this boy Kareem. I lost and then only we all learned that the boy was using a 1k list. I was a laughing stock for months. I quit playing WE for a while due to that and concentrate on my Necrons which was having a stream of success, even reaching Finals in GC Tourney (where i lose to Din).

But once again, i longed for brutal close combat actions. Which brings me back to my WE. I do some research and later learned about "The Red-tide". It involes utilising very aspect of Blood Frenzy for total anihilation, or simply annihilated. All this time i've been trying to control the Blood Frenzy, and i was shown the error of my way. I must completely accept the gift of Blood Frenzy, fully accept the gift of the Blood God. There is no gray area in the realm of Khorne, there is either Red.. or nothing at all.

And the next time i brought my WE, my list is as follows:

The list is a very fast-moving list. Talisman of Burning Blood ensures that my Berserkers always move more than 6 every turn. Deployed as fast as possible to enemy lines, they can reach the enemy during the 2nd turn (if luck permits). All the meanwhile, my Daemon Prince speeds towards enemy from the flank. And then came the Daemons..

I remember my very 1st game was vs Dann's Legion of The Damned. It was a very rare day when Rizal came to GC.. I remember Rizal have a look at my army and say how my Berserkers are so dead, facing Defilers and Leman Russes without any cover (It was in fact the truth of the situation). And then it ended ... I can still remember the sweet taste of victory when it is all finally over. The Red-tide has won!! It is truly the way favoured by Khorne.
(note: Dann challenges me later and he won the 2nd game :). But i cares not).

Since that day, i have fought countless of battles with my Red-tide, sometimes lost, but mostly a win. It was either win big, or lose big. But every game was as fun as the next. The best game was definitely against Warlord Nikolork's Green-tide.. Green Tide vs Red Tide. No-one remembers the number of attacks we delivered that day, but it reaches close to a thousand!! And our poster decorated the wall of GC for years to come....

Then came the new Codex..

My office was decorated by the supporting staffs for the Merdeka Celebration. There was quite a few leftovers meterials that interest me much. I know i can come up with something using the leftovers.

So last night, after finishing another Firedrakes, i decided to have a break from painting and built this ruin of a house. I am greatly satisfied with the result as you can see below..

The eldar can't help themself to try out the new ruins..

Now what it need is a paintjob. I need to go and buy some spray. Adios.

I am quite bored of painting marines already. Luckily there's some eldar models to paint. It was Din's Firedrakes for his Eldarbots. He is currently painting his Eldarbots for the November RTT. But we were afraid that he couldn't finish before time, so i agreed to finish some of his models. Some more, he don't know how to paint good yellow. My WE are fully painted and ready, so i better help him.

Here are they, 5 Firedrakes lead by Exarch with Firepike.
I take this opportunity to try out new painting method for the eyes. I don't know what they call it, but i've seen it a few times over the Net. I like the result very much.

Winged Lord

I always liked the idea of a winged Lord. In the CSM FAQ, it was mentioned that that a winged Lord still count as infantry instead of jump infantry. The gift of wings simply allows the Lord to move as jump infantry, but he will still count as infantry for all other purpose. Which means that he can still ride inside a Rhino. Yeay!! The only drawback is that it must be WYSIWYG. The Lord MUST have a wing on his back, no jumpack "count as" wings or something.

So i decided to make a winged Lord for my World Eaters. And after a week, i give you all..

Din passed this model 2 years back. To be painted for an Apocalypse game. But the game was cancelled and this guy stay in my bits box until i found him just recently.

Then i realize, this guy could be the only actual model of The Fateweaver ever produced!
And so decided to paint him.

I begin painting him as soon as i finished my Master of The Watch. I painted him blue, the color of tzeetch and add in some glaze of purple and green for more magical arcane look. Hope you like the result as much as i am :)

Legio WFB Tourney 2009

The 1st Legio Tourney was so much fun, it was beyond my expectation. Only 14 players participate (9 S'poreans and 5 M'sians), but it was hell lot of fun indeed. The S'poreans are cool and friendly, and that was one of the most important factor for a good gaming experience.

My Army, the Anti-magic Dark Elves
1st game - vs a Tzeentch Daemon army. I won a Minor Victory by capturing 2 table quaters. And oh.. i do capture the shard and my CoK champ became a lvl 1 Sorcerer.. Yeay!! :)

My 2nd game - vs the hated High Elves (with Tyrion). I slaughtered everyone in his army, but his Deathstar beat my Deathstar (worth double the points) and we drew.

My 3rd game - vs the my worst enemy, The Undead. Never won an Undead army since the last DE book. Never faced one with the New DE. Don't have any magic to counter his invocation, dont have the necessary skills to beat the player. And so, a solid lost against the Undead.

My result is 1 Win, 1 Draw & 1 Lost. Not bad i think , especially since this was my 5th, 6th and 7th game with the new DE :)

The best painted army

This Ogre Tyrant is prolly the best painted figure in the tournament. His army was well painted too. Too bad his army wasn't 100% painted, else the best painted awards should be his.

There are times when you saw a beautifully painted model and wondered, "If only i can paint something like that". That was what happen when i saw the Games Day 09 Chaos Lord in the WD353 (May09). It is a very beautiful model and was painted superbly with NMN. What interest me most is the tutorial included with it. It didn't take me long to find a suitable model to try and follow the tutorial.

I chose the Master of The Watch model which was primed but left untouched for more than a year. I like the model very much but dont think my skill is enough to give justice to the superb model. I believed, with proper tutorial, i can reach that level of painting and decided to give it a try.

I've been painting him for the past 5 days (average of 1 hour per day) and this below is what i have achieved so far...

He is painted in the colour of Raven Guard to complement my army.

Raven Guard Assault Squad I

It has been quite a long time since my last post. Too busy taking care of my wife and her morning sickness. It is finally over and she is doing fine now.

I began painting my Assault squad as soon as i can and able to finish 7 man. But this time i paint with speed instead of detail. I will have to return to them later for some blacklining to the metal parts. The remaining 3 man - done painting their eyes, RG insignia and squad markings. Metal parts and highlights are left to go.

It has been 3 weeks since the last game i had. In that game my RG fought Tyranids into a draw. I could have won if it was a different mission. But we rolled Capture and Control, and it is a mission that greatly benefits the Endless Swarm. I guess draw is enough.

I dont think i can game this week, so i wish all Legio members the best of luck down there at the SPORE.

10 man Tactical - Sgt with Combi-Melta, Meltagun, Plasma Cannon (Drop Pod)

10 man Assault Squad - Sgt with Pair of Claws, 2 Plasmas

The game was Capture and Control with Pitch Battle deployment

Highlights:

1. Capt. Amir shot his melta towards Kharn's Rhino and missed, and so was his veteran retinue. Following that they attempt to destroy it with brute force but failed their charge. Next turn, Kharn walks out of the Rhino and single-handedly wipe out Cpt Amir's Command Squad. They then fought one on one for 4 turns of CC where Cpt Amir came out the victor!!

2. Berserkers are within 2 inches of my objective and they want the skulls of RG troops protecting it. They failed charge with a double one moving through difficult ground. 2 Plasma cannons (at close range!!) incinerate them in an instant.

Result:

RG : Cpt. Amir and a lone marine bearing plasma cannon lives to tell the story - holds 0 objectives

WE : A Dakka-pred, 9 Raptors and a Rhino still hunting for skulls - holds 0 objectives

My RG almost got TAed, but it ended in a draw.
